It's a family name I always hated and discounted, but I said it aloud today and it is growing on me. Thoughts?

Topseyt · 23/09/2018 17:56

No! Just too old fashioned.

MollyHuaCha · 23/09/2018 17:58

Not one of my favourites.

How about Bronwyn? Or Brogan?

villainousbroodmare · 23/09/2018 18:00

Belinda is lovely....

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2018 18:19

I think it's ok but many don't. I like Brian too.

bastardkitty · 23/09/2018 18:23

Best not go there

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 23/09/2018 18:24

In our house Brenda is a nn for a cooked chicken.
Tracey is the Christmas turkey!!

n0ne · 23/09/2018 18:25

I live old-fashioned names but Brenda is atrocious, sorry.

Pebblespony · 23/09/2018 18:29

Sound like that slightly older woman who's a complete wagon that every office seems to have. (We have such a Brenda).

Glumglowworm · 23/09/2018 18:35

Victoria Wood in Dinnerladies

Of course you might just be ahead of your time and in 30 years people will be worrying about little Brenda being one of five in her class

But still no

Poolofjoy · 23/09/2018 18:39

Nooooo!

Trialsmum · 23/09/2018 18:41

Awful... truely awful...

Mookatron · 23/09/2018 18:45

I think 'nice tabard, Brenda'.

Rowdythree · 23/09/2018 18:50

It's my mums name and I think she'd have been horrified if we'd used it for either of our dd's Grin I do like Brennie and Brenna though!

Poolofjoy · 23/09/2018 18:54

What about Breanna

AbeFroman · 23/09/2018 18:55

I like it

PetraRabbit · 23/09/2018 19:25

I want to love it as it's unusual and pointedly unfashionable, but I just don't like names beginning with B very much. I do prefer it to any of the similar names suggested and I think if you like it you should go for it. She will become her name, as they all do. I am picturing a little Brenda and it just seems really cute.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/09/2018 19:27

It makes me think of Victoria Wood’s character in dinnerladies, and Julie Walters’ classic line:

“This is my daughter. Born on Christmas Eve - so we called her Brenda!”

LottieIsMyName · 23/09/2018 20:06

I'm not a fan, but if you love it go for it! But it doesn't sound like you love it

SumAndSubstance · 24/09/2018 16:16

Who's Fat Brenda? Is she an off-screen character on Coronation Street or have I made that up?

bellinisurge · 24/09/2018 16:27

Nickname for the Queen. Not meant kindly.

sycamore54321 · 24/09/2018 16:33

I’m surprised to see all the “frump” comments - I associate it with slightly dated American glamour, no doubt because the only Brenda I’d have come across was on television, the girl twin in Beverly Hills 90210! To me, it’s the same vein as Jessica or Samantha or Jennifer. So funny how we can have completely different impressions. Anyway, I’d obviously think it fine to use, and a lot better than some of the comeback names I see lauded on here like Edith or Maud. It has something going for it - easy to spell and pronounce, known but not overly popular, would travel easily in other languages... I am clearly in a minority though!

SkinnywannabeKBH · 24/09/2018 16:44

It's my middle name and to be honest not one in overly fond of. I definitely would not choose it for any of my children

babswindsor · 24/09/2018 16:53

terrible name! My mum had a friend 50 years ago with this name and it was awful then.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 24/09/2018 17:07

For real?

TallulahBetty · 24/09/2018 17:17
