It's a family name I always hated and discounted, but I said it aloud today and it is growing on me. Thoughts?

Lynne1Cat · 23/09/2018 00:32

It's old-fashioned and reminds me of a pub landlady

flumpybear · 23/09/2018 00:40
Shock
Shadow1234 · 23/09/2018 00:49

Yuk !!

BakedBeans47 · 23/09/2018 00:52

I am in my mid 40s and was at school with a Brenda and it was old fashioned then, so no.

kenandbarbie · 23/09/2018 02:40

Haha that was what I always thought- that advert with Brenda and Audrey that used to be on years ago!!! It had started to grow on me, but it's too soon. I'll leave it for my grandchildren Grin

well u cant use brennie for short cuz its longer thean brenda u absolute header BRENNIE is 7 letters. Brenda is 6

LiquoricePickle · 23/09/2018 03:29

Both my mum and mil are called Brenda. My mum hates it so much that she told me it would be unforgivable to force it on any child I have!

Fabricwitch · 23/09/2018 03:35

I think it's awful, sorry!

Piebeansandchips · 23/09/2018 03:46

I think the 1970s have called and they want their name back. Sorry!

Zoflorabore · 23/09/2018 03:48

Hate it and it may be due to the fact it's mil's name Grin

Oblomov18 · 23/09/2018 04:24

Awful. Truely awful.

OlennasWimple · 23/09/2018 04:46

It's Private Eye's NN for the Queen

And the lovely Victoria Wood in Dinnerladies

And Brenda Blethyn

But no

Snipples · 23/09/2018 04:59

Brenda is my mums name and when our DD was born there was absolutely no way I was using it even as a middle name. Sorry but it's clunky and not pretty at all.

Threeandabit · 23/09/2018 08:29

Kendra has a similar sort of sound, if that's what you like about it.

borntobequiet · 23/09/2018 08:32

I like it but not many will. Pleasantly retro. Belinda as an alternative?

bevelino · 23/09/2018 08:35

Brenda is right up there with Hilda. Old fashioned names but not in a nice way.

grasspigeons · 23/09/2018 08:41

I know a little Brenda and initially I was surprised but it really grew on me. She gets called Bren. It only sounds middle aged to people who are already pushing middle age

Kintan · 23/09/2018 08:45

I don’t like it but perhaps it’s due a come back by now. Could be a good middle name I guess.

Namethecat · 23/09/2018 08:47

All the Brendas I know are in their 70s/80s. It's a name from the 1930s and one that should stay there. Lots of old fashioned names are making a comeback because they are lovely. This is not one of them.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/09/2018 09:02

It's the same as Edith, Evelyn and Ivy to me - dreadful.

tazzy73 · 23/09/2018 15:57

wow
I knew my name was bad however the above comments are terrible 😉
I'm a Brenda, well it's actually Brenda-Lee. I'm called Bren, B, Breny.
It is an old name, hated it growing up!!
Growing on me now in my 40ies 😁

Fluffythefish · 23/09/2018 17:05

there were 8 baby Brenda's last year. (I may do a "who out of my family has the most popular name for babies" every year. Which is sad I know)

ScreamingValenta · 23/09/2018 17:08

My first thought was Private Eye.

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/09/2018 17:09

Brenda is an aging and slightly over weight tea lady in comfortable beige shoes.
She pushes the tea trolley around the office and sports a different, and often festive, apron everyday. She has impeccable taste in hair nets, curlers and little blue triangular hats.
She also has a cat called Foster and she loves talking about him... For literally hours...
She always smells faintly of deep heat, cat wee and lavendar.

(That's in my head by the way...)

PixelAteMe · 23/09/2018 17:11

A very ungainly-sounding name. Clumsy. Unattractive.
