Sibling for Astrid - ye olde names

Hi all,

I'm preggers with number two (gender unknown)and have a baby called Astrid.

Our surname is Norwegian and my husband has distant Norwegian heritage, and Astrid just sounded right with our surname (plus I've always loved the name).

Our surname starts with a vowel ("oar" sound) and I'm really keen on very old names, esp those that end in consonants.

We don't won't go Scandinavian with the next name as it would be a bit themey.

I love old/ medieval names. I am Scottish so Celtic names also good but it doesn't have to be.

Ideas I like so far-

Boy:
Lachlan
Ruan
Innes
Idris
Arthur
Edward
Hector
Archie

Girl:
Seren
Josienne
Esme
Rosamund
Evelyn
Isolde

Rosamund and Isolde. Agnes? Bathsheba/hepzibah? Two of my faves but make a lot of people shudder.

Moominfan · 14/09/2018 08:58

Torvin ?

Marbles321 · 14/09/2018 08:58

I've just had a Victor and have lots of comments on what an uncommon strong name it is. You could spell it with a k with your Norwegian link. A couple others I loved:
Magnus
Marcus
Dominic
Emrys (Welsh)
Tudor (Welsh)
Ellis
Griffin (Welsh)

From your lists I like Lachlan, Ruan, I and idris
Arthur Edward Hector Archie are all a bit old fashioned and kind of popular now. Don't think they really to with Astrid either . Same with Esme and Evelyn , very common.

What about Morven, Mirren, Eilidh, Erin, Quinn
Boys... Angus, Logan

Shazafied · 14/09/2018 17:36

Hi guys some great suggestions ! Yes I agree some of my list I think I'll relive as they are common atm and not very ye olde .....
