Currently expecting DS1. I am totally stuck with boys names and keep coming back to James. Is it too dull?

Luke. Jake (although too well known for 10 years now). Would be further up in my list. Do yu have a second name?

SunnySomer · 11/09/2018 21:54

Ive got one so I love it. But he is one of many. However, I choose it because it’s ageless and classless and could be amended in so many ways to suit his personality once he’d got one. (So you’re not necessarily just “James”).

Stilllookingfor · 11/09/2018 21:54

James is better than George

Stilllookingfor · 11/09/2018 21:54

And Jamie is nice.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 11/09/2018 21:55

I love James (biased) I think it’s a beautiful name

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2018 21:55

I love it.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 11/09/2018 21:56

Very ubiquitous amongst men in their 20s/30s but I actually haven’t met any small ones. It’s definitely a classic and a good solid choice.

TheGateauIsInTheChateau · 11/09/2018 21:56

James is a great name. Doesn’t age either. Good choice.

Itchytights · 11/09/2018 21:57

James is a gorgeous name.
I love it.

It’s not dull- it’s traditional and classic and timeless.

Not like these silly far out attention seeking made up names you get people call their offspring these days.

Go for it!

Luke, Jake and James were my list for ds when I was 6 months pregnant.

And then we called him something else. Still slightly regret it as I love those three names.

Dreamingofprosecco · 11/09/2018 21:58

Thank you! I do like Luke actually.

I have a James and love it because, like a PP said, it’s one of those names that spans the ages and classes. It never goes out of fashion, it’s a good well rounded solid name. I thought there’d be lots of james’ at my sons school but actually in his first school there were no other james’ and at his current school I think there are only 6-7 in his whole school!
I don’t think it’s dull at all and still love it now. In fact I’ve been struggling to find another boys names that’s timeless and I can’t think of another.

Dreamingofprosecco · 11/09/2018 22:02

Thank you ladies! I do really like it and can’t think of another name I love more 😀

It's a beautiful name. Probably my favourite boys' name. Go for it!

HelenaJustina · 11/09/2018 22:04

Love it. Didn’t have boys unfortunately, but I also liked Mark, Luke and Adam

WhatsGoingOnEh · 11/09/2018 22:04

It's a gorgeous name.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 11/09/2018 22:07

AddictedtoRadley, there are quite a few other boys' names which are classic and won't date, surely? William, John, Henry, George, Charles, Richard, Robert, Edward, Andrew, Michael, Stephen, Thomas, David, Alexander, Benjamin, Christopher, Philip, Peter, Paul, Daniel, Nicholas, Joseph.

Dontrocktheboat · 11/09/2018 22:09

It's a lovely name, and not actually that popular at the moment I don't think - way more George/ Henry/ Williams at my kids' school and nursery.

Scotstar · 11/09/2018 22:22

It's one of my son's middle name.
He has very classic names which I don't think will age, all mentioned on pp

Goostacean · 12/09/2018 00:45

Lovely! Go for it!

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/09/2018 00:59

It's a great name ! All the James I know are 20s or older , it's a nice classic name but the bonus of not being as common now !

moredoll · 12/09/2018 01:13

James is a great name. I agree that it's not used as often as it used to be. I don't know any little ones at all.

AddictedToRadley · 12/09/2018 01:16

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap perhaps I didn’t explain myself properly but I What I meant to say was that I couldn’t think of a classic name that both DH and I loved as much as James and that also spanned the generations. I don’t think James ever goes out of fashion or is ever seen as trendy. When I was at school there was one boy called George and he hated his name as it was seen as an old mans name back then whereas now I, and many others, love the name and it’s become fashionable again. I would perhaps say the same for names such as John, Michael, Peter, Phillip, Henry, Charles and possibly others. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I dislike these names but thinking back to my childhood and presently some would be seen as popular in previous generations or a mans name rather than a boy. There’s nothing wrong with any of those names at all, it’s just that for me personally I felt that James was the only boy name I could think of where it was never in or out of fashion. Likewise with Louise for a girl, I don’t think it’ll ever be fashionable or unfashionable if you see what I mean?

CuntyMcFuckerson · 12/09/2018 01:20

Mine's a teen now. There were no others at his primary and there's only a Jamie at his high school. We're in Scotland so there's supposed to be loads of them about but we don't come across many young/teen ones at all.

There's plenty of nickname options with it too. Though mine has always gone by his full name (except when I call him Jamesina-Belle or Jimbobtastic!).

Jeippinghmip · 12/09/2018 01:34

Really lovely name.
