Mickey as a nickname for a girl

What do you think?

Is it cute? Or a bit daft?

Any other ideas for a short name beginning with M? We’ve chosen Morvern which doesn’t lend itself to shortenings. It would be nice to have a cute name that we could call her by as well as her full name.

Awful! 😨

NannyR · 08/09/2018 12:59

I would see what pet names evolve once you get to know her rather than choosing something not related to her actual name in advance.

Zigazagazoo · 08/09/2018 13:00

Mo?

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 08/09/2018 13:01

How about Michaela Mickey for short

mimibunz · 08/09/2018 13:01

I like it better than Morvern, tbh.

Is go michelle and mickey / micki as a nn.

RavenWings · 08/09/2018 13:05

You know what Mickey is a euphemism for, right?

Michaela, Michelle, Michalina...all fine and you can use Mickey. Mickey by itself is stupid.

Katinkak8 · 08/09/2018 13:14

I like a boyish nickname for a girl. We have a Harrie (harriet) and it really suits her, so I like Mickey. I like Michaela as a full name for it.

UKcanuck · 08/09/2018 13:15

I think Mickey is cute, so I'm surprised at the hate it's getting! But what about Mo, Moo or Moo-Moo as nicknames? Is it a nickname in the family, or one you'd expect her to use out and about (eg at school): in which case Moo-Moo probably isn't what you want!

FissionChips · 08/09/2018 13:16

Horrible name.

BertrandRussell · 08/09/2018 13:16

So long as you would be happy to shorten a boy’s name like Samuel to Susie. Or Barnaby to Betty.

Sessy19 · 08/09/2018 13:17

My late-aunt was Mickey, for Michaela. I love it, both long and short.

Morvern is an interesting name, I like it. Mickey’s not a ‘natural’ nn, but she’s your daughter, you can nickname her what you like!

My friend has a Megan, but she’s only known as Mo. That’s how she introduces hersel. Not much difference in the comparison.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/09/2018 16:28

Moo moo Hmm. This is a child the op is naming, not a teddy bear.

Sunflower321 · 08/09/2018 16:35

It's fine as a nickname! Morven is lovely.

Mickey is no different to Teddy, Evie or any of the other current cutesy nicknames.

PinkBuffalo · 08/09/2018 16:39

I knew a girl called mickey at secondary. It was short for Michaela. Sounds fine to me

UKcanuck · 13/09/2018 16:17

It's a nickname @Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar, imho Moo-Moo is a perfectly fine family nickname/pet name. Unless you are thinking a nickname is for external usage, which as I pointed out would make a childish one less suitable. OK? Calm down. Sheesh.

yougotanygrapes · 13/09/2018 16:29

In some English speaking countries, a Mickey is a nickname for ladyparts Blush

RavenWings · 13/09/2018 16:37

Jaysus in this English speaking country, a mickey is a penis. Well known slang here. Bit different to moo moo or ickle preshus.

kenandbarbie · 13/09/2018 16:46

bigmickey.ie
Means penis here, see logo above!

dstm · 13/09/2018 16:49

I think Mickey is a cute nickname for a girl!!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/09/2018 17:21

Awful for boy or girl.

rainingcatsanddog · 13/09/2018 17:28

People will assume she's male because of Mickey Mouse and Mick Jagger and other men called Mick.

The phrases "taking the mickey" and "mickey mouse" would put me off.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 13/09/2018 17:31

I have never come across a little girl called Mickey but I did know a woman called Michelle who was always known as Mickey. Simply because of my memory of her I would say it was a lovely name.

HeyMicky · 13/09/2018 17:43

I highly recommend it :)

Never been called a man or genitals or a mouse, although obviously mickey can be any of those things as well
