These names were only used 3 times in 2016. Annoyingly, you can't see the names used once or twice for privacy reasons. Most of the names that low down are from a particular culture/country so not necessarily unusual worldwide but there's still quite a selection. Examples:

Standard but underused at present
August, Berenice, Bettina, Beverley, Belinda, Claudette, Devora, Geraldine, Guinevere, Isis, Lavender, Lesley, Lindsey, Marguerite, Mildred, Phyllis

Out There
Archer, Bee, Biba, Birdie, Clove, Diva, Flossy, Frenchie, Gifty, Gypsie, Hendrix, Huxley, Jewell, Joules, Journey, Katinka, Kerenza, Majesty, Onyx, Oracle, Palmer, Peach, Rosabel, Royal, Starlett, Tate, Tatum, Tiger, Twinkle

Double Barrelled
Amelia-Faith, Angel-Hope, Bonnie-Blu, Dolcie-Rae, Enya-Rose, Harper-Lea, Heavenly-Joy, Lily-Joy, Nancy-Lou, Piper-Marie, Rebecca-Rose, River-Leigh, Tallulah-Belle

Unusually Spelled
Abbygail, Addisyn, Christelle, Daizie, Gemima, Jessyca, Kalliopi, Rhylee, Scarlotte

'scarlotte' makes me shudder!
Surprised only 3 Lesleys as I know several adult women with this name. Unless ppl are using 'Leslie' more for a girl even though that's traditionally the male spelling - more common in the US though.

DuggeeHugs · 16/08/2018 05:58

This made me smile as I know one third of 2016s Guinevere children!

I'm surprised Lindsey isn't used more though as I remember it being quite popular.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 16/08/2018 06:19

Also surprised about Archer and Huxley given I know one of each.

I don't know a Lavender but do know of a Lilac and an Indigo.

Not surprised about Isis Grin

LaBelleSausage · 16/08/2018 06:34

I’m shocked at Hendrix. I know two babies born this year/last year called that so I suspect it’s lept back up the charts

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 16/08/2018 06:39

Im supriced about archer, also dont think its a particlly "out there" name

I think we can all take a guess at why Isis is under used at the moment.

Maireadd · 16/08/2018 06:59

To all those saying they know children with names like Huxley, Archer and Hendrix — this must be girl names only?

Archer was used nearly 200 times for boys in 2016, but is still very rare for girls.

Love Guinevere Duggee!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 16/08/2018 07:53

Oh yes, that's a good point @Maireadd Grin

DuggeeHugs · 16/08/2018 07:55

Maireadd I'm afraid I can't take credit for that one, but it belongs to the DD of acquaintances whose other children have similarly fantasy-princess names. They actually work really well Smile

PolkerrisBeach · 16/08/2018 07:57

There are probably more Lindseys out there - spelled Lindsay, Linzi, Linzay, Linsay, Linzay, Lyndsay, Lyndzay....

Agree that "standard but underused" is definitely the way to go.

Love the Standard But Underused list!

HouseOfSix · 16/08/2018 09:41

Is this in England OP? In the Scottish stats you can see where a name has been used only once that year (my DC was one of them! Hopefully in the 'real name but underused category...)

DieAntword · 16/08/2018 10:09

My eldest ended up with a name that was not in the statistics - for obvious reasons I won’t tell what but he was named after a deceased relative. Second son’s name was in the top 30 most popular names.

manicinsomniac · 16/08/2018 12:07

Yes, I'm so sorry, I meant to say this list was only the girls. I couldn't sleep so I was messing around and was going to do the boys then got a sudden wave of sleepiness and took advantage. I'll look at the boys later on. Sure there will be many more Archers etc on there.

HouseofSix - yes, England and Wales. That's cool that Scotland lists them all - I really can't see how it breaches privacy for it to be known that an individual was born! And congrats on getting a once used only name! Grin

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/08/2018 12:11

Tbh I'm surprised Isis has been used at all!!!

HouseOfSix · 16/08/2018 13:06

Thanks manic we were oddly proud. Grin DC2 was born this year so we await next year's publication with bated breath. There are usually 2-3 per year with her name.

HouseOfSix · 16/08/2018 13:08

Btw the Scottish stats site has a web based app you can use which shows an info graphic type thing of each name. It's fascinating!

EspressoPatronum · 19/08/2018 23:26

I was just about to say this list can't be exhaustive as my ds's name would be in it! He is one of only 3 of his name in 2016 😳 we hadn't realised it was so unusual!

manicinsomniac · 21/08/2018 18:00

^^
Oh no, it wasn't exhaustive at all, even for the girls. Only a small selection.

Some of the boys:

Standard but underused at present
Alf, Algernon, Cecil, Chandler, Clive, Dwight, Earl, Keston, Pete, Sandy, Willie, Zebediah

Out there
Acey, Baker, Bane, Baron, Bramwell, Cuban, Diamond, Gryffin, Hannibal, Jagger, Lazarus, Linkin, Major, Matey, Oak, Raleigh, Rock, Rocket, Stewie, Tallon, Thorn, Ulysses, Wolfie, Wraith

Double Barrelled
Albie-Jay, Bailey-Rae, David-Junior, Freddie-George, Hunter-Lee, Jayden-Jay, John-Boy, Mohammad-Ibrahim, Tristan-James

Unusually spelled
Antonie, Burt, Fredi, Jaykub, Levy, Martyn, Patric, Rhyan, Zachariyah

Glumglowworm · 21/08/2018 19:04

I’m not surprised about Lesley at all, I know several but all are 50+

It’s not old enough to be granny chic yet. Same with Geraldine.

Threeandabit · 21/08/2018 23:18

I really like Sheridan, for a girl, à la Sheridan Smith. That doesn't show up in the 2016 name statistics, so it was either used less than 3 times or not at all.

Flowerqueensw · 22/08/2018 10:02

I’m surprised at Mildred, only because I would have thought more people would want a Millie / Milly. But maybe they’re all going for Camilla.

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/08/2018 10:20

I actually know a boy with one of the ‘double barrel list names’ it made me Hmm but each to their own and all that!

Childrenofthesun · 22/08/2018 10:23

Three children were called Twinkle or Hannibal??
