Hello! my husband is american, from new orleans, and he's quite set on southern names for our son due in a month. i myself don't mind southern names, but there is one he suggested that i can't tell if i love or hate: Hazel for a boy. he suggested this because a southern writer flannery o'conner wrote a story about a male soldier called Hazel, and apparently the name is quite popular for boys in the south. To be honest, the more i think about the name, the more it looks and sounds fine: any opinions/thoughts? Thanks!

I think it's great, but the majority of people in the UK (me included) would assume that Hazel is a girl.

In the UK people will assume girl. I guess you could shorten it to something else but personally I wouldn't give my son an old ladies name

I wouldn't. If it was a rare name, that might be understandable - but it's a fairly well-known female name.
