Lydia or Imogen?

Due our third DD in three weeks and I'm still having a hard time deciding on a name between DH and I. We have two DD's with names ending in an 'ah' sound. Would Lydia be too matchy? What's your favourite?

I like Lydia slightly better, but with two 'ah' ending names already I'd go with Imogen.

MorrisDancingViv · 09/08/2018 21:46

Lydia

Justkeeprollingalong · 09/08/2018 21:48

Imogen. Imie for short.

Redsharks · 09/08/2018 21:56

I love the name Lydia and would stick to the pattern now IMO. My mum gave all 3 of her children "ee" sounding names- all end in a "y" and it works well; imagining your children were say, Paula, Nina and Lydia, I think it sounds lovely!

Cariadxx · 09/08/2018 21:58

I love Imogen.... It's on our list. Hate Lydia due to a bully at school being called that

Glumglowworm · 09/08/2018 22:00

Both lovely but I prefer Imogen especially with your other names

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/08/2018 22:09

Like both but Imogen is the more common (common popular)

Jollyholliday · 09/08/2018 22:11

Lydia is much prettier

Gates · 09/08/2018 22:25

Lydia x

fourplusonemore · 09/08/2018 22:32

Lydia Elise (two syllable surname) or Lydia Jayne (two syllable surname)?

I prefer Lydia to Imogen only because I don't like names ending with an 'ee' sound and Immie would become the defacto nickname. With Lydia it could be Lydie but it's less likely.

Imogen

TatianaLarina · 09/08/2018 23:34

The Imogen I know is Imo. I’ve always loved the name.

Don’t like Lydia, it’s dowdy. It would be hard to be a cool Lydia.

Sophronia · 10/08/2018 00:16

Lydia

sohorrible · 10/08/2018 00:24

Lydia is much nicer.

By "ah" ending, do you mean "uh" ending?

Because it would sound weird (or just unbearably posh) if you were pronouncing Lydia as "Lydiah"

OlennasWimple · 10/08/2018 00:27

Imogen Elise gets my vote

fourplusonemore · 10/08/2018 00:29

Definitely 'uh' ending. Names ending with a.

Both lovely, but Imogen is my favourite.

Pemba · 10/08/2018 02:20

Lydia is far from 'dowdy'. It's an elegant, romantic name, often associated with the Regency era (Jane Austen times).

I love Imogen too though.

FoofFighter · 10/08/2018 03:37

All I can think of is Aunt Lydia from The Handmaids Tale.

kenandbarbie · 10/08/2018 04:56

Lydia. I had imogen on my shortlist but at the seaside this weekend and everyone is shouting Imogen to their kids!

flumpybear · 10/08/2018 05:43

Imogen is lovely. Lydia reminds me of four weddings and a funeral Hmm

flumpybear · 10/08/2018 05:44

Oh and nn for Lydia - lydz which isn't great

wetsnow · 10/08/2018 06:14

I have a Lydia. She gets called Lydz.. but its cute on her. I love her name.
Also love Imogen.. cant go wrong with either. Maybe wait till shes born see which name suits her more?

Raines100 · 10/08/2018 06:17

Lydia by a country mile. It's a beautiful name. There are Immies everywhere these days.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/08/2018 06:21

Both are lovely but where I am you would come across more Imogens. Have you thought about Lyvia?
