Lydia or Imogen?

Due our third DD in three weeks and I'm still having a hard time deciding on a name between DH and I. We have two DD's with names ending in an 'ah' sound. Would Lydia be too matchy? What's your favourite?

I’m nowhere near posh, but pronounce Lydia with “-ah” at the end rather than “-uh”. I know quite a few, and all pronounced that way where we live. Both are lovely names OP.

I have a Lydia and her gma calls her Lyddy. It drives me nuts doesn't help that her voice goes up 3 octaves when she does it, like she's calling a puppy. My sister calls her Lyds which I prefer but in reality most people use her full name.

pilates · 10/08/2018 09:40

Both lovely names, but if I had to choose it would be Imogen. Could you have a nn of Jen rather than Immy?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/08/2018 10:23

Really don't like Lydia. I think it will date badly.
Imogen is lovely.

MorrisDancingViv · 10/08/2018 10:53

If anything, Imogen will be the one which will date, it has increased in popularity since 1996 whereas Lydia has decreased in popularity and hasn't been as popular as Imogen (Imogen is given to almost 3 x more girls than Lydia).

rosealltheway · 10/08/2018 11:15

Lydia, Immy as a nn has to be the most sickly, twee, puke inducing of all, errugh.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/08/2018 11:25

Not as bad as Emmie, rosealltheway. Now that is sickly. I'm not keen on Immy either. Ruins a beautiful name.

TheNavigator · 10/08/2018 11:33

They are both lovely names, you can’t go wrong. I’ve never come across Imie as a nickname for Imogen, but then I only know one Imogen & she is called by her full name.

Icklepup · 10/08/2018 11:35

Lydia Elise

sohorrible · 10/08/2018 14:03

Definitely 'uh' ending. Names ending with a

I still think it's fine. Loads of girl's names end in "a" so it doesnt look particularly like you chose a deliberate pattern.

Viviennemary · 10/08/2018 14:07

They are both OK names but wouldn't be my personal choice. I prefer Lydia. And Imogen seems to have gone from being rarely used now to loads of them.

Belindabauer · 10/08/2018 14:29

Lydia.

starkid · 10/08/2018 15:50

Both are nice, prefer Lydia a little though. I guess wait and see what she suits!

Fakingit36 · 11/08/2018 07:34

Lydia Elise is the name of a you tuber who a lot of people find annoying. You may just want to do due diligence on that... but it’s a lovely name!

Skyejuly · 11/08/2018 07:37

Imogen.

ChuffingNorah · 11/08/2018 07:52

It always amazes me how rude people are about names on these threads knowing full well that others will have chosen whatever it is they deem "dowdy" or "twee" or on other threads "chavvy ". There's no need for it.

Marmite27 · 11/08/2018 08:06

DD2 was going to be Lydia, until she miraculously turned into Matilda by the time she’d left theatre!

FrameyMcFrame · 11/08/2018 08:56

Imogen is very popular.

Lydia is rarer... and nicer.

LucyFox · 11/08/2018 09:07

Lydia Jayne or Imogen Elise

Both Lydia and Imogen are fairly popular names so you won’t go wrong with either but they probably won’t be the only ones in their year at school!

SoftSheen · 11/08/2018 09:10

Lydia. Too many little 'Immies' about at the moment.

Treaclepie19 · 12/08/2018 17:05

Imogen

Moonshine86 · 12/08/2018 17:08

Love lydia

PixelAteMe · 12/08/2018 17:17

Lydia. Pretty and elegant. It has never been overly popular.
Imogen sounds harsh to me, and there are loads around at the moment. I think it will date badly.

daisypond · 12/08/2018 17:38

Lydia is nicer than Imogen. Imogens are two a penny these days and the name's lost whatever charm it might have had.

ferrier · 12/08/2018 17:43

Definitely Imogen if the others end in a. I have friends who have three girls all ending in a - sounds like a Disney movie.
-may also be influenced by knowing two sneery Lydias-
