Am I weird to like this as a name?

FYI not pregnant just thinking.

I've never heard it. Is it an actual name?

Anasnake · 08/08/2018 21:04

Don't be silly Grin

Polly99 · 08/08/2018 21:04

Yes.

zen1 · 08/08/2018 21:06

What would you shorten it to?

Abouttoblow · 08/08/2018 21:07

Yes

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 08/08/2018 21:08

It's quite cool, actually, but will give rise to quite a lot of ribbing and I doubt your daughter will thank you.

How about Philippa instead (approximately 'she who loves horses')?

Peachbubble · 08/08/2018 21:09

It's a no from me

Sunnybeachbabe · 08/08/2018 21:11

Sounds like an 80's club night inBirmingham.
Definitely not a name for a child, especially if she turned out a bit chubby!

BroomstickOfLove · 08/08/2018 21:15

It's a pretty awesome name, but not one I would use for an actual child because the obvious shortening is hippo. Maybe as a middle name?

Topseyt · 08/08/2018 21:18

No. Just no. It is awful. The child will get called Hippo (hippopotamus).

Never heard of it and don't like it.

DC2018 · 08/08/2018 21:19

Sorry but you can't call your child that. They are bound to be bullied relentlessly Hmm

Roomba · 08/08/2018 21:20

Ah, thank you. You made me laugh for the first time all day, OP.

Apologies to anyone out there who named their PFB Hippodamia and is now mortally offended... Grin

Quangot · 08/08/2018 21:21

Yeah it's great, use it.

Grin
ReginaPhalange89 · 08/08/2018 21:24

This has to be a joke 😂

If not.... Absolutely no way , god forbid the child ever ended up a little over weight especially in high school 🙈

DwangelaForever · 08/08/2018 21:25

Oh ffs, we are no longer in Ancient Greece so there is no need to name our children Ancient Greek names.

It also sounds like one of those memes on how to name your child "take your favourite animal and favourite food, combine and you'll have the perfect name" Biscuit

buttercup54321 · 08/08/2018 21:39

Hippo. How ridiculous. Save it for a pet or cuddly toy.
Thank goodness some poor baby isn't in line for this.

Jeanclaudejackety · 08/08/2018 21:43

I'm sorry but anything with the actual word Hippo in is unnecessary and cruel
Ippolyta or Ippolita is better if you really like that kind of name but there are sooo many nicer Greek names

tillytoodles1 · 08/08/2018 21:46

It's an awful name, you're daughter would have a lifetime off p*ss-taking, especially if she was tubby.

Hippopotas · 08/08/2018 21:48

Thought it’d get shot down. Not saying I’m going to ever use it just thought it was nice.

I think people get so angsty on here about shortening names and nicknames.

OP posts:
LuluJakey1 · 08/08/2018 21:49

Long or short it is horrible.

Petalflowers · 08/08/2018 21:50

The nn would be Hippo, not the nicest nickname.

Hippo is also Latin for horse
E, imthink.

Also, reminds me of the nightclub, Hippodrome (owned by Peter Stringfellow?).

ILoveDolly · 08/08/2018 21:50

Anything with Hippo in will be disastrous for the child

EspressoPatronum · 08/08/2018 21:50

I thought it was a medical condition until I clocked that the thread was in baby names... Sorry op! 😂🙈

Hippopotas · 08/08/2018 21:53

I’m not using it. I just like it.

There's a big difference between being stroppy that Jennifer might be called Jen, and suggesting that gifting bullies the option of "Hippo" is a bad idea!
