We both added Heather into the mix last night and it's started to grow on me. Problem is I HATE when people shorten it to hev it really makes my skin crawl it's an awful Nick name😞 but is it unavoidable?

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 04/08/2018 12:24

I know an adult heather and an infant school age heather. Both are heather. Not shortened at all.

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 13:08

I know 3 of different ages and none are Hev.
If Hev makes your skin crawl use as a mn.

AtticaRose · 04/08/2018 13:08

Nice, and I think reasonably unlikely to be shortened.

Nogodsnomasters · 04/08/2018 13:26

My sister is called Heather and has never got "hev". I also had a friend at school called Heather who never was given a nickname.

MissDollyMix · 04/08/2018 13:29

I’m not keen. I always hear ‘heavier’ but that’s probably just me. I know a baby called Heather and everyone was very Hmm

DickensianHysteric · 04/08/2018 13:30

I've known two, neither of them got their name shortened. I think it's a lovely name.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 14:04

Never heard of Heather being shortened to Hev, or to anything else either.

RavenWings · 04/08/2018 14:07

Never heard of Heather = Hev either.

GandTthankyou · 04/08/2018 14:10

I know a Heather who gets called Hettie which I think is a lovely name x

SnuggyBuggy · 04/08/2018 14:12

I'm quite partial to the non-soppy plant girls names and heather is lovely.

Veterinari · 04/08/2018 14:15

Know 2. Never shortened

MissMoodyMoo · 04/08/2018 14:16

Ohhh hettie 😍😍😍 I actually think I might love it!

Heather is a lovely name. I’ve only ever heard or shorted to ‘H’ 😀

GandTthankyou · 04/08/2018 14:33

I do if Hettie wasn’t one of my closest friends I would’ve used it! X

MrsChollySawcutt · 04/08/2018 15:18

Hmm, I wouldn't go for Heather as it's synonymous with the classic 80s movie Heathers for me.

Interestingly it's getting something of a revival as it's having 30th anniversary screenings in cinemas in a couple of weeks and there's the new Heathers the musical is on right now in the West End. Very popular with teens.

MrsChollySawcutt · 04/08/2018 15:20

Hettie is actually short for Henrietta.

Puttheknifedown · 04/08/2018 15:45

Heather is so lovely, really pretty. I love Hettie too. It's not a very common name as well so I think it'd be good at school instead of having a name that everyone has (which mine do!) Go for it!

bridgetreilly · 04/08/2018 16:35

My first thought was Heathers too, which is not a great association. But otherwise, it's fine. Hettie is cute.

OddBoots · 04/08/2018 16:48

I've just seen Heathers The Musical so it makes me think of that.

The musical has been a success so is just about to transfer to a larger theatre, if that success continues it might be linked by more than just my generation.

Zioanna · 04/08/2018 17:00

It made me think of the film too, but I saw that as a positive. I loved it when I was younger.

Whalebird · 04/08/2018 18:07

Heather: tough, pretty and wild. Lovely name

PotteringAlong · 04/08/2018 18:08

I know 2 heather’s. Both are definitely a heather.

MrsChollySawcutt · 04/08/2018 18:11

Anyone else thinking of red scrunches and croquet mallets?

Elliebobbins · 04/08/2018 18:16

I know a Heather in her 20s whose name was shortened to Hev. However, I know plenty of other people who insist on going by their full name.

OlennasWimple · 04/08/2018 18:18

I've never come across Hev as a nn for Heather

Hettie would work fine as a nn
