Hi All,

Our beautiful daughter (DC3) is 6 days old today. We need to make a decision on her name. The name should be international, go well with her siblings Elizabeth and Edward (but not starting with E). Names left on our list are:

Alice
Rose
Annabel/Anna
Alexandra

Please share your suggestions and opinions on above.

So Elizabeth, Edward and ...? Thank you xx

I really like them all - you can't go wrong with any of them. Rose is lovely as a first name, much better than as a middle name. Anna is timeless. Alice and Alexandra have a simple gravity about them.

hottub · 26/07/2018 14:59

Anna - no contest. It goes with the others and is lovely.

So nice to see some traditional names on here, nice and "normal" when everyone is usually so bothered about being "unique" - I can't stand all these silly names but that's obviously just me Hmm

soupforbrains · 26/07/2018 15:10

also, I think that Rose works really nicely as a middle name with all three of the other names on your list, but also doesn't quite work with Edward and Elizabeth as a first name.

ReckItWralf · 26/07/2018 15:14

Alexandra or Alexia.

I really, really can’t stand the name Alice. It’s so wet and prissy.

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 26/07/2018 15:15

Amelia or Rebecca

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2018 15:26

Anna or Alice. I like Annabel but not Annabelle.
How about Margaret or Margarita and Susanna?

LeeMiller · 26/07/2018 15:31

Margaret (lots of nn potential), Beatrice, Frances, Josephine, Anne, Victoria, Constance, Matilda, Caroline, Louisa...

daisypond · 26/07/2018 15:33

Margaret is super, I think. It's a really old name and fits in well with your other DC names.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 15:38

I really like all your names. Sorry that doesn’t help!

Anna or Alexandra.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2018 15:42

Rose Alexandra.

RosaMallory · 26/07/2018 15:42

Rosa.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 15:43

Thinking about it, if I had to pick I one I would pick Alexandra because you have given your other children longer names with lots of nickname options. And Elizabeth and Alexandra are both lovely and regal, as a pp said. But Anna is beautiful, elegant and simple.

BellMcEnd · 26/07/2018 15:43

Alice or Rose

Isawthelight · 26/07/2018 15:47

Anna

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/07/2018 15:54

Annabel or Alexandra but only if her nn won't be Lexi

TempsPerdu · 26/07/2018 16:04

Anna or Alice - both lovely and timeless.

I also quite like Alexandra and agree that it probably goes best with Elizabeth, but it’s quite a ‘grown up’ name for a baby and I’m not keen on any of the shorter versions. Less keen on Annabel (a bit too ‘Pony Club’ for me) or Rose (bland imo).

PamBeeslysCardigan · 26/07/2018 16:10

My first thought after hearing the first two names was Catherine, but I like Anna from your list. congratulations on your new daughter!

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2018 16:43

I vote Catherine too, Kate for short perhaps.
It goes very well with her siblings. Congratulations.

LucyFox · 26/07/2018 16:55

Margaret was the first name that came to mind
If it needs to be form your list then probably Alexandra works better with the other names as it has more nickname/shortening options than Alice but I do like Alice!
What about Roseanna/Rosanna to combine 2 of your choices - nn Rosie if you wish ...

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 18:23

Margaret hasn’t come back into fashion yet but I love it and there are so many great nickname options.

Catherine/Katherine is another good one.

MikeUniformMike · 26/07/2018 19:06

I think Maggie is gaining popularity.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2018 19:08

Alexandra or Anna are both international.

EducationComesFirst · 26/07/2018 19:09

Lots of great suggestions, thank you. Can't have Catherine or Margaret unfortunately.

Our favourite has always been Alice, DH loves it. I really like it too, but was not sure if it goes with Elizabeth (was worried maybe a bit similar, especially if DD name is shortened to Eliza at some point)? Also, is it too popular at the moment or ok?

Are my concerns valid or can I confidently go ahead with Alice? Thanks
