We're really struggling (me especially) to narrow down our list. This is definitely my last pregnancy so maybe it's knowing that I'll never have the chance to use them again but we definitely need some help! Here's the list...

Boys: Dominic, Elijah, Jasper & Zachary | Girls: Beatrix, Cecily, Elodie, Felicity, Imogen, Margot & Penelope

& ones we're still undecided on but discussing...
Boys: Alexander, Arthur, Benjamin, Elwood, George, Julian, Oliver, Oscar, Reuben, Sebastian & Samuel

Girls: Calliope, Cecilia, Eloise, Emilia, Emmeline, Esmée, Evangeline, Evelyn, Florence, Francesca, Genevieve, Hazel, Hermione, Josephine, Lucia, Matilda, Ophelia, Persephone, Primrose, Seren, Sienna, Willow & Winter

Our children's names' are ranked #241, #156 & #365 (according to cso.ie) - probably more on the traditional side/well known names but not overly popular here (more so in the UK except maybe DD1 but it has risen in popularity since we named her, 6 years ago) I understand some names on the list are more 'out there' than others. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it (especially with how long the list is lol)

Zachary and Beatrix for me!

Greeneyedgeek83 · 25/07/2018 16:17

From your first lists my top names are Elijah and Margot.

George And Alexander are also nice but an Alex is putting me off Alexander.

Eloise, Evangeline and Evelyn are all on my list too but so is Margot.

So in a nutshell if your baby is a girl my top names for you would be Margot, Eloise, Evangeline or Evelyn and for a boy Elijah or George.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 25/07/2018 16:20

Imagine shouting them out at the playground

"Ophelia, your sushi is ready!"

It might help narrow down some of the more ... unusual choices Smile

Susannach · 25/07/2018 16:30

My favourites are:

Jasper
Julian

Beatrix
Hazel
Hermione
Primrose
Winter

daisypond · 25/07/2018 16:35

From your first lists, I like Dominic and Zachary.
Girls - I like them all except Elodie and Imogen.

DaniCam89 · 25/07/2018 17:11

My top 3 from your lists are;
Girls- Margot, Eloise and Esmee
Boys- Elijah, Zachary and Samuel x

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 17:25

Thanks for your help so far everyone!

Hmm. I guess we don't rank high enough in social class to use Ophelia, @Pittcuecothecookbook ... Our LOs have never even tried sushi ShockSmile

I absolutely love Ophelia (one of my fav songs!) but "Ophelia! Spag Bol is ready!" doesn't have the same ring to it so it was out for us Grin

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 18:22

@Pittcuecothecookbook 😂😂😂

Sebastian and Primrose

EmmaC78 · 25/07/2018 18:25

Persephone is awful. Beatrice is probably my favourite from your list.

SmellyHead · 25/07/2018 18:27

I really like these: Dominic or Samuel | Margot or Genevieve.

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 18:31

Beatrix, @EmmaC78 ... Hubby vetoed Beatrice despite the small difference between the two Hmm I know Persephone is probably too much but we think the pronunciation is beautiful... It probably would get butchered though.

MrsMarigold · 25/07/2018 18:32

EmmaC78 · 25/07/2018 18:44

Sorry it was Beatrix spelling I liked. Just late in the day so put the wrong spelling :)

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 18:48

Thanks for the thorough feedback, MikeUniformMike!

We're not bothered about names getting shortened - everyone tends to shortened our LO's names (including us)

I actually like both pronunciations of Lucia but I think Loo-SEE-A would probably be most people's go to? Maybe we'll ask around lol.

My favourites are Jasper and Cecily.

Least favourites are Elwood and Oscar, Calliope and Evangeline.

Much of your long girl's list is just a bit "trying too hard", Ophelia & Persephone for instance.

Sunnybeachbabe · 25/07/2018 18:53

Benjamin, Reuben or Elodie, Imogen.

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 18:53

I've never understood how a name could be 'try hard' lol. We simply just like the sound of them Confused but thanks for the feedback, @AdaColeman Smile

Srilli · 25/07/2018 18:53

Love
Girls- Persephone Penelope Beatrix and Cecily
Boys- Alexander Reuben and Dominic

MikeUniformMike · 25/07/2018 18:53

Oh gosh. I hadn't thought of Loo-see-ah.
I'd scrub it out and think of something else. I like Lucy.

pixieloux · 25/07/2018 18:56

@MikeUniformMike It's the reason why it's on our maybes list along with Calliope, Esmée. Emmeline & Persephone... We wondered if they would lead to too many spelling/pronunciation issues.

OP posts:
TroubledLichen · 25/07/2018 18:59

Top 5 for girls:
Margot
Elodie
Beatrix
Eloise
Genevieve

Top 5 for boys:
Alexander
Arthur
Sebastian
Zachary
Reuben

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 25/07/2018 19:00

If you are looking for something a bit unusual then I would avoid Alexander, Arthur, Benjamin, George, Oscar & Samuel as they are all pretty commonplace

Beatrix, Cecily, Cecelia, Hazel, Emmeline or Josephine would be my choice for a girl (sorry that doesn't narrow it down much!)

Zachary or Elijah for a boy

I have an irrational dislike of the name Jasper
