Boys names beginning with J

Hi, were expecting our baby boy in September, we have 2 girls already.
Hubbys has his sights set on a name beginning with J to follow a family tradition. We have ruled out very traditional names eg John, jack, at th moment we like Jesse and jake. Jesse was a strong favourite until we mentioned it to a family member who immediately said its to girly and he would get called “ a big Jesse “ I think that saying is quite a generation thing and children he grows up with wouldn’t even relate that?
Any help/ suggestion please :) Smile

I really like Jesse.
Maybe as Jesse Lingard is around now it’d be easier...

I used to work with a male Jody some years ago and I always thought that was cool but if you’re having doubts about Jesse I won’t suggest Jody

Strange really isn’t it, how unisex names are generally considered ok for girls yet less commonly used for boys. Think Lesley/Leslie, Vivian, Jean/Gene, Marion (John Wayne’s birth name).

I don't like Jesse. Someone will be bound to spell it Jessie.
I'm not keen on Unisex names.

Why are your girls names out if interest? As it may help to offer names based on theirs? I like Jake but also really like Jamie.

What^

ErrantBakedBean · 18/07/2018 15:11

I think you'd be fine with Jesse these days. My favourite J name is Jory though - the Cornish form of George.

Mummyc123 · 18/07/2018 15:28

HJL our girls are Amelia and Olivia 😊 x

Lovely girls names. I think Jake actually really goes with them!

Noone South of 50 will say that ridiculous girly/sissy bs about Jesse I reckon. One of Mick Jaggers sons is Jesse, I think its a great name for a boy.

I don't think that Mick Jagger has a son called Jesse, but Ronnie Wood has. Jesse Wood looks suspiciously like Ronnie Wood.

lynmilne65 · 18/07/2018 15:50

My nephew is Jerome

I'd like to think that family member would back off once the child was born and named Jesse. Hopefully they would stop associating it to the phrase and start associating it to your boy. I imagine they were just trying to put you off but they'll get used to it. I'd like to doubt they wouldn't be mean to the kid their whole life.

It's a great name and definitely good enough to put up the the risk of an annoying family member making comments.

DammitOedipus · 19/07/2018 07:42

Jesse is great, not girly! Jesse James is what I'd think of. I used to babysit a little Jesse and he was wonderful!

MollyHuaCha · 19/07/2018 07:51

Stupid relatives! We have someone who did the same three times and this was after the babies were born and the names were announced.

Fair enough if it's a made up name. But with an established name, ignore, ignore, ignore.

I like Jesse, and am pretty sure no one his age (or under the age of 50!) would use the phrase 'a big Jesse' at him, so go for it I think. I prefer it to Jake.

Thank you everyone, I definitely feel better about the name and not to listen to the negative, so many of you have been so positive over the name I think we have set out hearts on it for our little man 💙 xx
