Really like the name Poppy but is it really blah and boring/common?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Cherubfish · 15/07/2018 07:03

I love it and it was on the list for my DD. I don't think it's especially common - I know two children (age 3 and 8) with this name.

Redteapot67 · 15/07/2018 07:03

No.

diedyediedye · 15/07/2018 07:03

I don't know any Poppy's.

PinkCalluna · 15/07/2018 07:04

It depends where you live, I don’t know any Poppys of any age.

Battleax · 15/07/2018 07:04

No, not particularly. It’s a lovely name too.

Chocolatecake12 · 15/07/2018 07:07

I know 3 Poppy’s. 2 in my ds’s class and one a few years older (15)
It’s a pretty name though!

greendale17 · 15/07/2018 07:07

Yes where I am. Nursery has 3

Clairetree1 · 15/07/2018 07:08

common at school where I am

bookworm14 · 15/07/2018 07:14

It was the 13th most common girl’s name in 2016 according to the official stats, so yes, it is popular. Don’t let that bother you if you like it, though.

Jaxtellerswife · 15/07/2018 07:16

It's popular but one of my favourites.

rainbowstardrops · 15/07/2018 07:44

I work in a school and we've only got one Poppy as far as I'm aware.
I really like it. My old rabbit was called Poppy and she was lovely! Smile

ProfessorMoody · 15/07/2018 07:45

I've only taught one in the last 5 years.

BetterEatCheese · 15/07/2018 07:46

3 in dd's school

Peoplemaynoticeus · 15/07/2018 07:51

I know of one in my children’s school, Lacey/Lacie on the other hand there are multiple in every class along with Lola and Layla/Laila

Loopytiles · 15/07/2018 07:53

Well the ONS baby names stats will show how popular it is in each year. A PP has highlighted that it’s popular.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 15/07/2018 08:07

It wouldn't be my choice as I think it's a bit 'meh'. There is a Poppy in DS's class at nursery which is small, but I don't know any others.
I honestly don't think anyone's opinion should put you off though. Someone told me they hated my choice for DD, but I still used it and I didn't care. I also strongly dislike their name choice, so I was kind of glad!

DungballInADress · 15/07/2018 08:09

I know 5. It's definitely becoming more common.

barkingfly · 15/07/2018 08:58

not at all

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/07/2018 10:20

It does seem to be quite common round here. There are two in 4yo DD's very small preschool class. We also know a 2yo Poppy and there are three teenage Poppy's at the secondary school where I work.

fourpawswhite · 15/07/2018 10:21

I know one. She's early twenties and a lovely young woman.

upsydaisydah · 15/07/2018 10:27

I’m a student children’s nurse, I’ve come across a lot of children in the last two years and I have never come across a child called Poppy - a lovely name Smile

Chathamhouserules · 15/07/2018 10:28

3 in my dd's class and I know a couple of others. I like it though.

Appuskidu · 15/07/2018 10:29

I know a couple locally. I think it’s a beautiful name.

IceBearRocks · 15/07/2018 10:30

I know 4 and 2 of those are dogs!!

KERALA1 · 15/07/2018 10:31

Like Daisy/ Millie/Honey I really don't think it translates into adult hood. Lightweight toddler name would be odd on a competent professional 40 something. Just my opinion tho.
