Also I have a good friend with an Archer, are they too similar?

Alfie, Archie etc are very trendy and will probably start to sound dated as they fall out of fashion.

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/07/2018 15:09

I don’t think the friends thing matters but unfortunately I do think it’s overly popular and very ‘of it’s time’ sorry

MariaMadita · 03/07/2018 15:15

It's trendy and imo a bit twee.

Archibald nn Archie is nice. (Archer is fine as well... I wouldn't worry about your friend already having an Archer.)

heatwave2018 · 03/07/2018 15:17

What is wrong with a popular name? At least it's easy for them to spell and people aren’t going to be like Lucy is that Lucy or Lucie?

MorrisDancingViv · 03/07/2018 16:01

I know a lot of Archies. Their parents are either very posh and loaded or the complete opposite.

sonnyboo · 03/07/2018 16:56

What is wrong with a popular name?

It won't identify a person without the addition of a surname initial. It may start to sound dated as it falls out of fashion. And some people find overused names a little dull.

butterry · 03/07/2018 19:33

I know 4 Archers/Archies born in the last year. Incredibly popular!

Susannach · 03/07/2018 19:46

I know loads, and it is very close to Archer.

redmini4 · 03/07/2018 20:16

Archie is very popular in Scotland.

RumAppleGinger · 03/07/2018 20:22

I have an Archie. I know of at least three others. I still love it but there is no denying it is a popular name. It wasn't as popular 8 years ago when we named DS but even it was I would have still used it.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/07/2018 20:29

I know quite a few Archie's aged 3 and under. It does seem to be popular here, though not as popular as Alfie's

CathyandHeathcliff · 03/07/2018 21:43

We’re going for Archie for our baby when he comes. I only know of two and I work in a school.

AlyTab · 03/07/2018 23:04

Personally I have never met any. I do think it sounds like an old man's name though (sorry). I guess that is how they get their name though lol.

TwinkleToes86 · 03/07/2018 23:07

Archies are everywhere. And it's not a particularly nice name either...IMO (sorry).

Phyllispontypandy · 03/07/2018 23:33

I know quite a few pre-school aged Archies.

HJL2506 · 04/07/2018 12:48

Archer and Archie are very very similar, however I don't think it makes any difference if Archie is your friends son.

Archie is a popular name, my little boy has 2 little friends called Archie, however my son is called Stanley. If you love it go for it, that's what we did. If it's popular then obviously a lot of people agree with your choice :)

HJL2506 · 04/07/2018 12:50

If archer is your friends son I meant^

spiderlight · 04/07/2018 13:55

I don't know any little Archies (apart from our dog and we named him long before it became popular!)

sonnyboo · 04/07/2018 14:58

It's cute for a dog!

CathyandHeathcliff · 05/07/2018 16:45

It’s an old fashioned name too (very popular during the Victorian era).

We love it. Also because of its Scottish connection it works well as we have Scots in both our families.

MiniAlphaBravo · 05/07/2018 16:47

Yes it’s very popular and rather twee imo. I don’t like that there is no option if he doesn’t want to be known as Archie when older, as it sounds like a babyish name to me.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/07/2018 16:49

Popular, twee and nicknamey, not a good adult name.

MariaMadita · 05/07/2018 16:53

@CathyandHeathcliff

Were the Scottish Archies Archer, Archibald or Archie on the bc?

(DH is Scottish and a Scottish middle name might be a nice nod to his heritage...)

Katjolo · 05/07/2018 20:49

Very popular

Mousefunky · 06/07/2018 15:02

Archie, Freddie and Alfie were massive about a decade ago. When I was pregnant with DC1 nine years ago, those were the most common boy names I’d see people using. Not sure how common they are now but I’m not keen.
