Would this be cruel?!

Obviously I've named changed as this is completely outing.

Trying to decide on a name for our second DS, we both like Fredrick. However our last name is Franklin. We'd have DH's brother's name as a middle name which is Luke, so Fredrick Luke Franklin.

But I can't decide is Freddie Franklin is cruel?! Grin we have Thomas George already and really like 'Tom and Fred' but I just can't decide on Freddie Franklin!?

TIA!

I love it! Love alliterative names.

Freddie Flintoff’s real first name is Andrew though.

DorothyBastard · 17/06/2018 22:10

I too would be mindful if he struggles with his ‘r’ sounds. Fweddie Fwanklin is quite a name to be saddled with

Charliecatpaws · 17/06/2018 22:22

I like it, I also like Freddie as a shortened name ( one of my cats is called Fred / Freddie)

Picknickers · 17/06/2018 22:24

It's FAB!!! Really love it.

Emma198 · 17/06/2018 22:26

He'd have to grow up to be famous. Newsreader maybe.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 17/06/2018 23:07

I love names like this. They're memorable.

Fred Franklin, Freddie Franklin, Frederic Franklin - I love it!

You could go Alfred if you get the fear, and just call him Freddie as a nickname. But Alfred Franklin doesn't have the same oomph as Frederic Franklin, somehow.

Sophronia · 17/06/2018 23:28

I like Frederick Franklin

Joeybee · 18/06/2018 00:31

No!! Alliteration names sound tacky and are often hard for people to get their tongue around. Freddie Franklin sounds like an entertainer from the 70's or something.
The name Frederick Luke is lovely, but I don't think you can use it with your surname.

twinkletwinklelittlerainbow · 18/06/2018 00:35

It is a bit of a gobfull to say, and I said flanklin a couple of times, but I do like it!

twinkletwinklelittlerainbow · 18/06/2018 00:36

My uncle was called Arthur Arthur, can't get much worse than that GrinGrinGrin

mathanxiety · 18/06/2018 01:16

I don't think Alfred Franklin is great, because you have the two "Fr" sounds in consecutive syllables - I think it's far more of a mouthful than Frederick Franklin or Freddie Franklin!

Agree with this.

I like alliterative names, and Frederick is gorgeous.

4GreenApples · 18/06/2018 01:26

Freddie Franklin sounds fine to me and not cruel at all!

I’d avoid Frank though. That would be taking alliteration too far.

Oysterbabe · 18/06/2018 03:04

I like it. My son has an alliterative name so I am a fan of them.

Choccywoccyhooha · 18/06/2018 03:12

It's a gorgeous name. I have a child with an alliterative name and I hardly think about it, but when I do I think it just sounds awesome.

Bubblesoup · 18/06/2018 03:23

I think it sounds great! My daughter has an alliterative name too!

My only hesitation is if, like others say, he has an issue pronouncing the letter r. Of which I know half a dozen people!

Squidgling · 18/06/2018 03:42

I don't like Frederick Franklin that much because not only do you have the repeated Fr sound you also have the repeated k sound.

However I think Freddie Franklin sounds really good together!

justanothernamechange94 · 18/06/2018 08:40

@4GreenApples you mean I can't have Frank Franklin?! Gutted! Grin

Thank you for all your replies! General consensus is it's ok. And my son is going to be very rich and famous

Oh I like Freddie Franklin.
And you'll soon see that actually, the big fuss that people make on MN against a name (I've been guilty of this!) doesn't translate into reality.
My kids have gone to school with other kids whose names on a MN thread would have you saying, "No. just no!"
But in reality, no one bats an eye.
Not once, in my 16 years of taking kids to school and playgrounds, have I EVER judged a kid's name. Never. I've judged harshly on MN but not in real life. Grin
My point is, do it. If you love the name Frederick, do it! It's a great name, Frederick. And Freddie Franklin works! Besides, how often do people say our first and surnames together? Not often at all.

MariaMadita · 18/06/2018 12:14

Frederick "Fred" Franklin is fab imo :)

(Fredrick is nice as well but I prefer Frederic/k)

MariaMadita · 18/06/2018 12:15

Oops, missed the update.

Frederick Franklin is a great name imo :)!

PaddyF0dder · 18/06/2018 12:18

That could be a superhero secret identity.

Go for it!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/06/2018 14:24

I think it sounds great OP.

foxtiger · 19/06/2018 18:10

For some reason I think it's less of a big deal because you already have a Tom. It kind of proves that you're not into alliteration just for alliteration's sake/to sound "cute", whereas if you had a Fraser Franklin and a Freddie Franklin, that really would be a bit too much!

Plenty of famous people have had alliterative names or even some that sounded more similar than what you're suggesting, like Nina Nannar for example, or Bryan Brown. I honestly don't think this is too much of a problem - and how often is he going to be called by his first and last names anyway?
