Would this be cruel?!

Obviously I've named changed as this is completely outing.

Trying to decide on a name for our second DS, we both like Fredrick. However our last name is Franklin. We'd have DH's brother's name as a middle name which is Luke, so Fredrick Luke Franklin.

But I can't decide is Freddie Franklin is cruel?! Grin we have Thomas George already and really like 'Tom and Fred' but I just can't decide on Freddie Franklin!?

TIA!

Now I think about it, I don't think Alfred Franklin is great, because you have the two "Fr" sounds in consecutive syllables - I think it's far more of a mouthful than Frederick Franklin or Freddie Franklin!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/06/2018 19:04

I like it

SequinsOnEverything · 17/06/2018 19:07

I love alliterative names so I say go for it.

Reaa · 17/06/2018 19:07

I like it but I also think Albert would fit nicely too.

whiteonred · 17/06/2018 19:09

I quite like it too!

LastNightsMakeUp · 17/06/2018 19:12

I actually really like it. I second the pp who said it sounds very 1920's journalist - I think it's great!

SomewhatDisgruntled · 17/06/2018 19:18

Frederick / Freddie Franklin is a great name. My only hesitation would be that it's not uncommon for people to have difficulty pronouncing the letter R properly when preceded by a hard consonant. Bit of a pain if it's your name (twice)! But that's not likely I suppose. I'm overly cautious about this as I find Pr_ tricky, and a friend of mine won't call her husband his proper name because she's embarrassed about not being able to sound it properly (he doesn't care btw and is happy with a nickname, but I think she had too many years of being teased at school for saying fw/pw instead of fr/pr etc).

On a side note, good thinking re. sibling names. I always think it's a bit odd when siblings have names that are really different, like Esmeralda and Bob Grin. I can't imagine the same people choosing both those names or calling them across the playground!

Poppyfields21 · 17/06/2018 19:18

I like that if you go with Alfred his initials would be ALF which is also his actual name ShockGrin

OtherUsername · 17/06/2018 19:22

I think it sounds great! Like a superheroes daytime name or a 30s American reporter.

N8Emma · 17/06/2018 19:22

What about Wilfred?

MyGastIsFlabbered · 17/06/2018 19:36

I love it but I'm biased because I have a Freddie too!

loveliesbleeding1 · 17/06/2018 19:40

I tried to say it aloud, fast and I can't. It's a tongue twister.

bluemoonchances · 17/06/2018 19:48

I like it! He sounds like a newspaper reporter out of an old black and white film! Grin

justanothernamechange94 · 17/06/2018 20:00

I'm thinking most people are leaning towards it being ok! Which I'm quite relieved about as it is growing on me more and more.

Although he's obviously got to be a news reporter!

Dangerousminds · 17/06/2018 20:41

I think it sounds cool!

bruffin · 17/06/2018 20:43

I like it

RantyMare · 17/06/2018 20:52

I like it a lot. Can imagine a very successful man with that name.

justanothernamechange94 · 17/06/2018 20:57

@SomewhatDisgruntled oh that's a very good point actually. Imagine if he couldn't say his own name! 😱

Although, like you say that is probably fairly uncommon. And we'd have to get creative with nicknames Grin

I think if it’s ok for Freddie Flintoff then why not? I love the name Freddie.

Jasmina456 · 17/06/2018 21:03

Ooh just thought of an issue with Alfred Franklin.

Suppose he chooses the nickname Al,

Al Franklin sounds rather like Al Franken, the US Senator who had to resign for sexual misconduct...

Cosmoa · 17/06/2018 21:06

I love alliteration so I think it's great. My daughters name is alliterated (not sure thats a word but you get me...)

OuchLegoHurts · 17/06/2018 21:09

I love it! It smells of success!

justanothernamechange94 · 17/06/2018 21:15

@Jasmina456 😱 you're right. This is why I came to you guys!! I would have never realised this until it was too late!
