And what are your thoughts?

I've got a Freya and I live on a council estate. No-one mentioned the rules when she was born shrugs*

What does your husband mean by common? Chavvy?
I like Ava, it's more popular round here ( on the council estate) but lots of Eva's too. Both very pretty but I think Freya is the stronger name.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 16/06/2018 17:02

Both are lovely.

My favourite is Freya.

Chuckle65 · 16/06/2018 17:02

I think Freya is more interesting in terms of the history of the name. I also think Ava is too popular nowadays so I'd have to pick Freya. I don't see how it's common at all!

dickxydoraxx · 16/06/2018 17:03

I like the name Ava. My friend's little girl is called Ava. Such a pretty name.

Swishswish26 · 16/06/2018 17:07

They are both lovely names but you will find at least five Ava’s in every year at primary school so that would massively put me off.

Moominfan · 16/06/2018 17:11

Freya

VioletCharlotte · 16/06/2018 17:19

I prefer Ava but Freya's nice too. I know a teenage Freya who's lovely.

blondeemily · 16/06/2018 19:01

Really dislike Ava. Freya is lovely.
I work in a large primary school and there are loads of Avas (as well as Evas and Evies as PPs have said). Only one Freya.

daisypond · 16/06/2018 19:18

Hm, difficult one. I can't work out which one I think is worse. Ava to me is just a phonetic spelling of the name Eva and is just seems like you can't spell a simple foreign name. And it is very bland and gets muddled up with all the million Evas, Evies, Edies, etc. Freya is an odd one too - it feels like a "let's pretend we're Scandinavian" name, quite comical, unless you're actually Scandinavian. I would probably go for Freya over Ava, but it's a hard one.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/06/2018 19:20

Freya

HarryLovesDraco · 16/06/2018 22:44

Both VERY popular. I know several Avas and 2 Freyas all under 6.

Oysterbabe · 17/06/2018 07:36

I know loads of both. They're very of the moment so will date quite badly I think.

llangennith · 17/06/2018 08:06

Both names are nice but both are very popular/common.

MatildaLovesBooks · 17/06/2018 09:36

Freya gives me the creeps. It’s not very nice-sounding.

Ava 100%. Short, sweet and beautiful.

NordicNobody · 17/06/2018 10:07

I like them both but would probably pick Freya as less popular and I like the Norse Mythology connection.

NordicNobody · 17/06/2018 10:13

My friend has 2 daughters called Etta and Ada which I think are just wonderful names and may be up your street. I'd have them for our own dd except they don't go with our last name. I did actually pitch Freya as a name choice originally I've just remembered, but DP didn't go for it.

letsdolunch321 · 17/06/2018 10:13

I would have Freya Ava surname

MeyYael · 17/06/2018 11:02

Etta and Ada are lovely.

Ida, Esther, Celia, Lotta, Nora, Clara, Anna and Eliza are similar imo.

MikeUniformMike · 17/06/2018 14:53

How about Heidi?

ellalouise90 · 17/06/2018 15:48

Ava 😍 Freya would work as a middle name to Ava Freya 👌👌👌

spiderlight · 17/06/2018 17:21

Freya by a country mile. There are thousands of Avas at DS's school.

loveshinealight · 17/06/2018 19:00

Definitely Fraya. Avas are ten a penny up here.. usually with rose or grace as a middle name. 😒

RoseMartha · 17/06/2018 19:04

Ava

rawstar · 17/06/2018 20:07

Freya absolutely. I love it. Ava is nice enough, but used an awful lot. I only know one Freya where I am - and that's mine! It's not that common in Scotland. She's in a school of hundreds of children and is the only one.
