Help with naming first baby.

I seriously need some help with baby girl names, I'm currently 19 weeks and me and my DH have come up with Winston for a boy which we are pretty set on, however we really clash with girl's names and can't agree on anything. I know I have a while left and have gender reveal next week (hopefully) but just wondering if anyone has opinions on my favourite names... Middle name will most probably be Nesta after my late great grandmother.

So my top picks are;

Romilly
Aurelia (is this really common now, I liked it since Love, Actually)
Dorothea
Sylvia
Emmeline (centenary year of suffrage?)
Hallie
Serena
Olive
June

Hoping someone can come up with a reason why one of these is stunning to convince my husband, he wants to name the baby after me.. Danielle.. I don't think so.

I like Romilly and Aurelia.
I've heard of the odd Aurelia but its not that popular. I love the meaning.

Vivasummer · 15/06/2018 15:35

Emmeline is lovely.

Definitely not Olive.

MikeUniformMike · 15/06/2018 15:40

Winston is an excellent choice.
Romilly - not keen. Was he a First World War General or something?
Aurelia (is this really common now, I liked it since Love, Actually) - it's ok, a bit long. Would get shortened but what to?
Dorothea - Prefer Dorothy and love Dot.
Sylvia - yuk
Emmeline (centenary year of suffrage?) - she'll be one of many.
Hallie - comet is Halley's
Serena - lovely, but there's Ms Williams
Olive - not keen. It just makes me think of oil.
June - no.

Octopeppa · 15/06/2018 15:42

Love Sylvia, Hallie and Serena.

moofolk · 15/06/2018 15:43

If you're going with a Pankhurst go Sylvia over Emmeline.

AdaColeman · 15/06/2018 15:52

Not Olive or June or Hallie.

The others are all lovely, especially Romilly and Serena.

(Rommel was the General, so not too similar.)

WrideD · 15/06/2018 15:52

I think with Aurelia the nn would be Rae or Raya... which I quite like as well and yeah the meaning is lovely, meaning golden and most of my husband's family are blonde so it might be a winner.

Romilly, I've liked for a while and it goes well with surname, originally more of a man's name but I don't mind the ambiguity and it has loads of ties to where we live in S.Wales.

Sylvia Pankhurst, I didn't even think of it for that reason... I've liked it since school when we studied Plath's poetry but that's a good idea.

My DH said the same about Olive... Pop Eye haha, yeah I think that's out.

There's just something about Serena I love, the way it looks and sounds and I love Serena Williams so that's not a problem.

Naming a baby is so hard, too much choice. Aurelia might be the front runner, I'm just worried it's a 'fad' name.

It think all your names are pretty out there, think your husband might agree (although I don't like Danielle lol) maybe go for something more "normal"?

AdaColeman · 15/06/2018 15:54

If you're thinking of Pankhursts, Christabel is fab!

WrideD · 15/06/2018 15:55

Haha, I don't really like 'normal' names though, there's nothing I like apart from these, that's why we can't agree, he's only come up with Chloe which is okay but not really for me.

WrideD · 15/06/2018 15:56

Christabel is so cute but it includes an ex's name so definitely out...

The only other name I like is Mirabelle.. Grin

Nesta is very pretty too, it's long been a favourite of mine, would you not use it as a first name?

MrsMrsMrsMrs · 15/06/2018 16:01

I really like Olive also nn Liv or Livvie
I prefer Sylvie or Silvie to Sylvia.
Some lovely names on your list.

AdaColeman · 15/06/2018 16:01

Nesta Emmeline has a nice ring to it!

WrideD · 15/06/2018 16:05

Wow, never heard of anyone who likes the name Nesta, that's made me happy, I have considered it, it would be a moving tribute to my great grandmother who raised my mother and eight of her own children, she was the center of the family and I love that it's Welsh but not too Welsh to be said/written correctly.

I like Romilly and Aurelia. Winston is so cute.

n0ne · 15/06/2018 16:14

Love Nesta! Aurelia is also gorgeous, and I don't know any

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/06/2018 16:27

Romilly is nice and I love Mirabelle.

Don't understand the Hallie love, is pronounced like the Halle orchestra or Hayley?

Sophronia · 15/06/2018 16:31

I like Sylvia, Emmeline and Mirabelle.

TatianaLarina · 15/06/2018 16:58

Romilly, Aurelia and Serena are all lovely. Don’t like the others.

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 17:00

I love Olive, was one of my top girl names. Aurelia is pretty too x

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 17:05

@GreatDuckCookery

Hallie is pronounced like Sally but with a "H". My friend had a baby at the end of May and has just named her this.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/06/2018 17:08

Oh right, thanks for explaining HJL. Not my bag at all!

HJL2506 · 15/06/2018 17:11

That's ok, not mine either. :)
