Daniel or something else?

I don't know what the sex of this baby is but am really struggling to come up with boys names. I already have one DS and used the only name I'm really keen on for him.

I've been mulling Daniel over a lot. I like Dan and Danny as nicknames. It seems good for a kid and an adult. But is it....boring? I'm worried it's a bit Ian / Chris / Rob if you know what I mean Grin.

Open to other suggestions! I also like (but am not convinced by):
Freddie
Max
Ned
Arthur (but can't use)
Benjamin (can't use)

I like Daniel. I think it's a strong name and a classic with great nns.

RedDwarves · 05/06/2018 23:06

Daniel's great.

Love Ned too, but as a shortening for Edward or Edmund.

Sophronia · 05/06/2018 23:28

It’s a great name!

Picknickers · 05/06/2018 23:53

A Daniel (known as Danny) truly broke my heart as a teenager but it still remains one of my favourite names.

Freyanna · 06/06/2018 01:46

Daniel is a great name.

happymummy12345 · 06/06/2018 02:15

My son is Daniel so I love it. I'll do as much as I can to stop my Daniel becoming dan or Danny though, as I don't like those personally:

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 13:16

If you like Dan and Danny, you can't go wrong with Daniel. Classic, popular, classless (as in could be prime minister or rock star or mechanic or whatever).
I quite like the middle-aged men sort of names, but Daniel is more evergreen.

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 13:17

Ned is dreadful, sorry.

MatildaLovesBooks · 06/06/2018 13:28

It’s so boring. Dan is better than Daniel but it’s still outdated. And all the Daniels I’ve known have been scruffy.

Do you like it because it’s biblical? You could look for some more biblical names?

MatildaLovesBooks · 06/06/2018 13:30

I personally can’t imagine a prime minister called Daniel. Maybe it’s because of the scruffy connotation (sorry).

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 06/06/2018 13:32

Daniel is lovely.

Moonkissedlegs · 06/06/2018 13:34

What about Sean? Or Balonz?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist, it's my favourite MN thread ever! Grin)

On a serious note, I do like Daniel in the same way I like Ellie or Ava for girls. Lovely name but absolutely everywhere. Yes, I do think it's a bit Chris/Dave.

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 13:34

There hasn't been one, but one time I was rather hoping that Dan Jarvis might have been one. I don't think that up to a few years ago we would have imagined a PM called Theresa.

beachysandy81 · 06/06/2018 13:35

I love the name Daniel and that would be my next choice for a name if I had a boy!

Other boys names I love are:

Isaac
Jacob
Joshua
Joseph
Luke
Louis
Luca

sparklepops123 · 06/06/2018 13:35

Hermoid - I have a 26 yr old Daniel too! Must of been a good yr !

PaddyF0dder · 06/06/2018 13:40

It’s a nice, simple, classic name. And as you say it’s versatile - Dan, Danny. Give them a compatible middle name and they can even call themselves DJ during their twatty early adult years.

sockunicorn · 06/06/2018 13:41

love daniel :)

PaddyF0dder · 06/06/2018 13:41

Don’t call your kid Ned if you ever want them to visit Scotland by the way...

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 13:45

Daniel as a name works in lots of countries, which is another advantage.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 06/06/2018 13:46

I really like Dan(iel) and Sam(uel), really strong names.

LionsTeeth · 06/06/2018 13:55

Daniel is an excellent name imo

Tiredandemotional123 · 06/06/2018 19:03

Seems pretty well liked then. Not really heard of many other 'young' Daniels. More teenagers / adults. Also I don't have any experience of Daniel's being scruffy so I won't worry too much about that Wink

Also floating Robin around although my helpful sister says that's a bed wetters name Hmm. Also don't like Rob....

I really like Daniel but Dh didn’t, plus people were saying oh I know a Daniel he’s a right sod or a pain, in the end we agreed on Lewis.

Glumglowworm · 06/06/2018 19:51

It’s lovely and timeless, one of my favourite boys names

Isadora2007 · 06/06/2018 21:48

Hahaha @eggsandwich - Lewis is such a “bad boy” name here!
We ended up with a Daniel (who is 5 now) simply because it was a name everyone thought was quite nice/alright and we had so many fussy buggers to please. I felt bad it was no ones favourite... but reading the (mostly) positive comments here is nice.
Our D goes by Daniel at school, dan often at home and Danny at sports clubs. It’s versatile which is good.
