Malin for a girl?

Is this a bit ‘out there’ or too different? (I don’t know any youngsters with the name)

I’m half Danish, so the scandi link means it’s not completely odd, and I’ve always been a fan or the name. But I’d like honest opinions...

I love it :)

I know one, her parents pronounce it May-lin. It's pretty, I like it.

I really like it, unusual without being weird.

I'd say it was easy to pronounce because I hear it on the Shipping Forecast. I like it.

I like it a lot. A friend's DD has it as her middle name cos she was listening to the shipping forecast during the birth!

Malin Head is the tippy top of Ireland, and quite close to where I'm from so it would feel a bit like calling my child Portsmouth to me. But if you don't have that association it's not an ugly name. I don't think it deserves some of the comments on here, imo.
I do think that you'll probably get a few Love Island comments though, or at least people might assume that's where you've heard it.

@HolyShmoly thank you. I don’t watch Love Island, nor anyone that I know... I had to google it! 😂 So in a year or so I should think it will lose such connotations as is the nature of popular culture. I’ll monitor the name’ popularity in that waiting period nonetheless.

I disregard most of the actual nasty comments, some people just get a kick out of poo pooing strangers with no grace lol 😂 tacky

Love Island 2017

Beautiful! I flatshared with a really nice Swedish girl called Malin, many years ago. And have had a crush on the name ever since!

It’s a fish name, and one that kids will know of because...Nemos dad!!

Too out there for me, sounds too made up for my part of the uk I'm afraid, but we aren't that cosmopolitan in Yorkshire.

I love it. Worked with a fab Finnish Swede or Swedish Finn (can’t remember) by that name.

How about Malina instead of Malin, it's not too far off and sounds a bit more complete iyswim.

I like it. But I used to work with someone from Sweden with the same name, so I have some context with it being used as a first name.
