Rohan or Ronan?

Due a baby boy in August and struggling with names. I like Rowan, but OH doesn't like the way it sounds with local dialect. Quite like Rohan and Ronan too but keep flipping between the two. What does mumsnet think? Also open to other suggestions.

Like both so not much help but would pick Ronan

CormoranStrike · 27/05/2018 16:45

Rowan or Rowan? Row as in row of shops or row to rhyme with cow?

And does Rohan have a solid h, to make it different from Rowan?

What about Rory?

LawDegreeBarbie · 27/05/2018 16:45

Rohan.

InkSnail · 27/05/2018 16:49

Rohan

IRememberSoIDo · 27/05/2018 16:51

I know a Rowan who pronounces it row as in row of shops - an. I really like it but he will tell you he's spent 40+ years saying no not Ronan, Rowan. I like Ronan.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/05/2018 16:53

I like Roman. The H in Rohan sounds a bit guttural and harsh.

LadyWithLapdog · 27/05/2018 16:55

I mean Ronan.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 16:55

I have Roan. Pronounced without a w.

ShmooBooMoo · 27/05/2018 16:57

Was about to say Rowan as an alternative to those, then read your OP. Rohan, then, but only because I have an irrational hatred of Ronan Keating. Doesn't Mia Farrow have a Rohan?

ShmooBooMoo · 27/05/2018 16:58

You might like Rory?

Loopytiles · 27/05/2018 17:01

Neither.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 27/05/2018 17:03

You do know Rohan is a place in the Lord of the Rings yes? Pronounced roe hann with the h audible so it rhymes with slow han . Rohan is home to a race of warrior people famed for their horses.

No to Ronan as it sounds too boy bandy for me.

madeyemoodysmum · 27/05/2018 17:10

Rohan

celeryeater · 27/05/2018 17:41

I think that is my issue with Ronan - I will always think of Ronan Keating even though babies generation probably won't. Rohan would be pronounced like Row Han. I like Rory but OH doesn't.

I really like Ronan :)

I don't think I've ever heard of Ronan Keating, btw...

catalinablue · 28/05/2018 05:55

I prefer Ronan to Rohan. But, prefer Roman to both. :)

Mrsknackered · 28/05/2018 06:11

Rohan over Ronan but Roman over them all

I know a Ronin.

Joan90 · 28/05/2018 06:51

Ronin? That's an odd spelling?

IHeartKingThistle · 28/05/2018 08:58

Pretty sure it's a real name. Irish parents.

HeyDolly · 28/05/2018 09:08

I prefer Rohan but you’d probably have to spend a lifetime of correcting people that it’s not Rowan.

OakIsBetterTho · 28/05/2018 09:11

Rohan over ronan in theory, but it's a name from lord of the rings and I wouldn't be keen to name any child of mine after a book/film/whatever although I do love lotr
Roman trumps them both!

heateallthebuns · 28/05/2018 17:47

Ronan is better I think.

celeryeater · 28/05/2018 19:42

I like Roman but it definitely does not work well with our surname - makes it ridiculous! So that's a no.
