Rohan or Ronan?

Due a baby boy in August and struggling with names. I like Rowan, but OH doesn't like the way it sounds with local dialect. Quite like Rohan and Ronan too but keep flipping between the two. What does mumsnet think? Also open to other suggestions.

celery is your surname one of the following:

Empire, gladiator, Times.

If so, I say go for it Grin

Rohan is lovely though.

Ronan

ILikTheBred · 28/05/2018 20:35

Irish person here - Ronin is definitely not an Irish name. I think it’s a samurai warrior.

flybabyfly · 28/05/2018 20:43

PP’s suggestion of Roan is nice. I also like Rowan, Rohan is ok and not keen on Ronan.

TatianaLarina · 28/05/2018 21:36

Much prefer Roman to either.

Mrsknackered you're not far off!

Celery, is your surname Fort?

ooobisto · 29/05/2018 21:30

Isn't Rohan just an outdoors shop?

Joeybee · 29/05/2018 23:08

Don't like Rohan....is that not a city in Lord of the Rings?
Ronan is lovely. I have a friend who called her little boy Ronan and it's a really fab name. Rowan is lovely too, so shame you can't go with that.

RavenWings · 29/05/2018 23:12

Ronan, no contest.

Hate Roman, it makes me think of Polanski and Rohan reminds me of LOTR (which could be a positive, mind you!).

missyB1 · 29/05/2018 23:18

Ronan without a doubt. If I’d been blessed with another ds that was the name I had picked out. I’ve always been an Irish rugby supporter and my all time favourite player was Ronan O Gara.

Rohan is also an Indian name, if that makes a difference.

LastNightsMakeUp · 02/06/2018 19:23

I'll be no help here as my favourite is Rowan, sorry! I'm not keen on any of the alternatives. Ronan because of the Keating association (which isn't actually terrible but it gives me an immediate 'no' for the name) and Rohan to me would be pronounced as Rowan anyway, so Im not sure you'd achieve what you want to in it not being Rowan.

hapagirl · 02/06/2018 19:31

Rohan. That was what we wanted to name a boy but we only have girls. Xx

Winchester13 · 02/06/2018 19:34

I like Rowan best too

chronicallyawesome · 02/06/2018 19:38

I'd go for Rohan - I worked with someone senior to me called Rohan when I was just starting out - he was born here to Indian parents - and I like the name because of that association.

Love Rowan - row as in boat for boys, row as in argue for girls is what I've heard - but you need to be happy with others' pronunciation not just yours.

Rohan

DramaAlpaca · 02/06/2018 20:06

I'm in Ireland & I'd pronounce Rohan the same as Rowan.

I prefer Ronan.

Applejuicebox · 02/06/2018 20:11

Rohan is a lovely Indian name

seriouslystumped · 02/06/2018 20:30

As pp said, Rohan is a lovely Indian name. A family member has this name (we're Indian) and pronounced the Indian way (with an emphasis on the "h") it's a beautiful name. It's mispronounced as "Rowan" a lot though.
