Do you love your DCs names?

We have picked a name for our son but I don’t love it. I don’t love any boys names at all so kind of think we will just settle on this name as it’s the only one we both like. It’s a nice name, just doesn’t really excite me. Did you love your children’s names when you picked them or grow to love them once they were assigned to a real life person?

I like it. I didn't pick it but I'm happy with it. Can't say I love it though. But I do love her nickname

HappyLollipop · 26/05/2018 16:50

I do love my DS name but it took time to grow on me.

LunaTrap · 26/05/2018 16:52

Yes. My DD and DS have my favourite girl's and boy's names and I love them.

TheVanguardSix · 26/05/2018 16:53

The name I wasn’t sure of is the one I absolutely love now.
I love my kids’ names. Absolutely!
But I am sooooo glad I didn’t call DD the name I’d been hanging onto for years. We called her something I never would have considered had DH not brought the name to the table.
I wasn’t sure at first but now I wish I’d loved it from the get-go because I adore her name so much now, if that makes sense. Smile
It’s so her!

ZebraKid71 · 26/05/2018 16:53

Yes, I love! Dds names. I don't have any boys but the boy name we agreed on I don't love.. Whilst pregnant I was worried about how it would be to call him it day to day if baby was a boy. It is a really nice name, it just felt weird to me. I don't really love any boys names though so was happy to agree to it as my husband loved it. We'd probably still use it for any future boy though and I think it will become normal to me in no time.

Proudmummy2MA · 26/05/2018 16:54

I loved my first son's name instantly. I struggled to find a name I loved as much for my second son. I liked the name we chose, but I didn't have the same feeling about it. I love it now though because it's his name, it suits him, and I adore him!

Yankeecandleaddict · 26/05/2018 17:12

Thank you, my DD doesn’t have my favourite girls name either. Her name is lovely and is ‘her’ and I love the diminutive but her full name is just a bit too popular for me. It has sentimental value though.
I promised with my second I would pick a name I love and is not too popular, we had the perfect girls name selected but we have never felt the same way about a boys name. I’ve always wanted a son but wish I could find a name that I absolutely love instead of just quite like. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

I absolutely love my DCN's but I'd chosen them when I was little and had my mind set all the way, luckily for me my husband loved them too.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 26/05/2018 18:48

I don't think I love any names to be honest, they are just names. I love the people, like the people or dislike them depending on who they are but a name is just a name it doesn't really mean anything.

LinoleumBlownapart · 26/05/2018 18:53

I didn't but I do now. Because of them.

Muse84 · 26/05/2018 19:46

I felt the same. All the boys names felt so uninspiring, I just kept going through the same lists over and over and accepted I'd have to choose one and be ambivalent about it.

We then came upon an unusual but classic name that finally got me excited! It suits both baby and man and is board room appropriate! And has some meaning for us with regards to its origins. However, not being on the "safe" list meant I definitely had a few big wobbles, even up until he was 3-4 months. Especially in the middle of the night Confused but now at 7 months, I truly love it. I think it's hearing everyone say it over and over (and knowing they all got used to it, should they have needed to) and I know he's going to grow into it more every day. I'm proud and happy that we chose it.

It's partly why I found out at 20 weeks, to give us more time to decide if it was a boy!! So tough..

namaste86 · 26/05/2018 19:52

Yes i still adore my son's name. I've always liked it, then went DP and I decided to start TTC, he loved as well. Plus it was perfectly with his surname and chosen MN. It suits all ages, and someone 'preppy' and sporty. I love it and it 100% suits him.

Only problem is it's the ONLY name we liked. We are TTC #2 soon and if it's a boy we are going to struggle with names.

namaste86 · 26/05/2018 19:52

Sorry about all the typos! Confused

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2018 19:54

Yes I do. I loved their names when they were born & I still do now over 20 years later.

n0ne · 26/05/2018 20:10

Love them! DH actually came up with them both. Loved DD1's name from the get-go. DD2's I wasn't keen on when he first suggested it but it slowly worked it's way up our list. After we went with it, we discovered several literary and music references related to it and that sealed the deal.

ProustianMadeleine · 26/05/2018 20:16

Love all my children's names. The last one was not 'love at first sight' and took a while to grow on me, dh picked it, it's very unusual but we had a deal and I stuck with it.

CocoAndTheChocolates · 26/05/2018 20:42

Love my DCs names. There was only one boys name I loved and I fought for it. Would have been a struggle coming up with anything else

Buntysoven · 26/05/2018 22:27

I do love both dd's names but got a bit of a verbal battering from his side over 2nd dd's name...they thought it was odd. Wobbled ever so slightly but dh LOVES it and that made me feel better.

BubblesInMyTea · 26/05/2018 22:35

I only truly love one of my kids names . One I don't like her full name but I like her nickname. The other is ok but not what I would have picked.

We adopted them. Youngest we had from birth so were able to pick.

Their bio mum is polish. The one I dislike has a name only heard of in Poland.

bluechameleon · 26/05/2018 22:58

I loved DS1's name from the start. It had been my first choice for a while and as we kept narrowing down the list I always wanted it to win. With DS2 I was equally happy with a couple of different names so wasn't so attached to it. Now he's been here a few months I love it.

BevBrook · 26/05/2018 23:02

I did not love Ds2’s name, especially the shortening of it, and it really took me a while to connect it with him. I had wanted Edward/Teddy, which felt much more him. But I really like it now.

Arcadia · 27/05/2018 01:19

Luckily we had more or less chosen our DDs first name prior to birth which I really like even though it is a common name, but unfortunately I feel absolutely neutral about her middle name but just went along with it as was in severe shock following the birth. Sad

Cosmoa · 27/05/2018 06:33

I am crazy in love with my daughters name! It's super rare but similar sounding to some traditional/common names so the reaction I've had has been amazing Smile

IveNoImagination · 27/05/2018 08:17

I don't think I absolutely loved either! I wanted my partner's input and he didn't like the names I "fell in love with" when I was early on in each pregnancy, and that was fine.

Their names grew on me over time, and I'm glad that we didn't go for the names I loved at first as they wouldn't have suited. Especially as one meant dark haired, she went blonde after a few months of age! Grin

immortalmarble · 27/05/2018 08:18

No ... I like them but they are a bit bland, I suppose.

I’m like you and in the main am not madly keen on any boys names and the ones I DO love would probably lead to bullying.
