We've come across this name today. Mn will likely be James surname is double barrelled but normal. It means immortal or divine which I think is nice.

What do you all think?

I like it.

The3 · 21/05/2018 20:15

We know one at dc’s school. He is known as “rice pudding”

ellalouise90 · 21/05/2018 20:19

Unusual and beautiful!

Elphabaisnotwicked · 21/05/2018 20:25

Love it! Makes me think of My Cousin Rachel but it’s not a bad association.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/05/2018 20:28

Don't like sorry. It's like a hybrid between Amber and Rose. However I've seen it get a lot of love on here so I'm probably in the minority.

Rogue1234 · 21/05/2018 20:29

Sorry, it makes me think of custard!

Topseyt · 21/05/2018 20:33

It makes me think of Ambrosia tinned rice pudding.

Manupprincess · 21/05/2018 20:44

I love the name Ambrose.

Battleax · 21/05/2018 20:46

Food of the gods. It’s a nice name. Bit rustic.

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 21:15

It's a no from me but the welsh version of it is quite nice. Emrys. (pronounced EM-Riss)

spritethecat · 21/05/2018 21:27

Fabulous name! Classic and unusual

Joeybee · 21/05/2018 22:01

Can't look past rice pudding tbh.

There are a few schools near me called St Ambrose which also I associate it with

It's an interesting name idea though, it is a proper name (though people may think it's a modern made up name) and I think the right person could probably pull it off. It sounds very hippy-ish or a celeb name.

Chewbecca · 21/05/2018 22:04

Sounds a little wet

Heratnumber7 · 21/05/2018 22:10

nn Rosie???
Blush

BB2018 · 21/05/2018 22:19

Like it!

OrlandaFuriosa · 21/05/2018 22:22

Love it. Also love Anselm which doesn’t have the rice pudding tie up.

Bede is quite nice too.

Also like Amyas and Augustus.

Less keen on Adolphus.

notacooldad · 21/05/2018 22:27

This us my mates name. He is in his 50s.
I associate the name with him as he is the only one I know! He is a top bloke, a good laugh and his family are great fun so it is a positive name for me.
That said, he us known by a shortened version of his surname!

Sophronia · 21/05/2018 23:27

I like it

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 21/05/2018 23:31

I like it. Makes me think of Ambrose Bierce who is sadly out of style these days but was a great writer:

OliviaStabler · 21/05/2018 23:32

I think of tinned rice

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/05/2018 06:55

I really like it but when I tried to float it by DH he just kept saying Ambrosia

LastDrWho · 22/05/2018 09:04

Thanks all for your input. It'll be staying firmly on the list for now whilst we sound it out for a few weeks. I really like it but I'm not sure I can imagine naming my son Ambrose - time will tell!

We like that it's a 'real' name but also not very commonly used.

I'm not sure the custard/rice pudding reference is putting me off - being pregnant it kind of makes me want some! 😂

Ambrose is an awful first name, sorry. He will get teased dreadfully at school.

If you love the name, how about using it as a mn instead? James Ambrose sounds lovely.

CaptainCabinets · 22/05/2018 11:25

How about Amos?
