Noel Edmunds.

Everyone you know will be knitting him strange jumpers - see above.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 21/05/2018 10:02

It's quite a nice name. I think I'd avoid it for a Christmas baby though

jennifersarah · 21/05/2018 10:07

Not a Christmas baby, I’m due in July!

Really like it! Family name for us - thinking about using it perhaps as a middle name. My hubby says Mr Blobby and Noel Edmunds though. There's also Noel Gallagher and Noel Fielding for well known Noels. I don't think these days it has to be a Christmas baby, though it means Christmas and was used originally for Christmas babies.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 21/05/2018 10:15

What about a jumble up and have Leon?

spookytime · 21/05/2018 10:16

Interesting fact, Gallagher and Fielding both have May birthdays!

Edmunds is the only one who is a December (22nd) birthday.

catalinablue · 21/05/2018 10:21

I don't mind it, but much prefer Joel! Love that name. :)

stopbeingadramallama · 21/05/2018 10:26

I always think of Noel Gallagher.
It's not the worst name but there are a lot better names out there.

Sophronia · 21/05/2018 10:30

I really like it

wtf2018 · 21/05/2018 10:37

Feels like an old man name to me... bit on par with Brian or Eric?

MammieBear · 21/05/2018 11:15

It's an interesting choice...

userabcname · 21/05/2018 11:19

Not a huge fan. I prefer Joel or Leon as pp have suggested.

TheFatkinsDiet · 21/05/2018 11:19

I dislike it a lot I’m afraid. I just don’t like the sound of it and have only met one who was decidedly odd and not very pleasant (former colleague).

jennifersarah · 21/05/2018 11:22

Thanks all. Middle name would be Henry, which we both love. Can’t have Henry as first name because it has already been taken for another family member Sad

There’s 4 men that I work with called Noel - all in their 40s/50s. It must’ve been popular back then in my regional area Grin.

It’s not a name that I would use or like but I’m not sure if that’s because I associate it with them (they’re all a bit miserable Grin)

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 14:09

I'd assume it was a Christmas baby.

annandale · 21/05/2018 14:12

I know a very tiny non-Christmas Noelle so it's clearly coming back in. Not my taste but if you like it fair enough.

spookytime · 21/05/2018 14:15

Which family member has”Henry”? Someone close? Will they still be in touch in 5, 20, 15 years time?

My son has the same name as a cousin, I didn’t care (though she did).

spookytime · 21/05/2018 14:15

Sorry, that should read “same name as cousin’s child”.

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 15:27

Noel is a masculine French given name derived from noël, meaning Christmas. The actual feminine form is Noelle, but in English-speaking regions Noel is sometimes used for females as well. The original French spellings are Noël and Noëlle.

Lovely name. Once people have got used to Noel = jennifersarah bay they will love it too.

There is always the best Noel:

Moonkissedlegs · 21/05/2018 15:37

To me it's an Irish guy, 30s/40s/maybe early 50s, works for the construction equipment hire company that his dad set up.

butlerswharf · 21/05/2018 15:49

Very old fashioned but not in a good way,

jennifersarah · 21/05/2018 17:42

Noel may be a French name, but I think it sounds quite Irish, and my hub has Irish roots so that’s part of the reason I’m tempted. Also, I love Noel Fielding, and Noel Fitzpatrick (the vet). Noel Edmunds/Blobby ruins it...! And the Christmas thing is also on my mind.
Henry is a close relative so I daren’t go for that name!
I like Leon but DH doesn’t. Not keen on Joel. Any other similar ones I’m missing? Irish name ideas?
