Agnes, Beatrice or Ingrid?

Which of these three? I prefer strong names and I love them all but have minor doubts about each - that Agnes and Beatrice will spike (have spiked?) in popularity, that Agnes is too harsh and Beatrice too soft, and that using Ingrid without any Scandinavian connection is a bit weird/pretentious. Thoughts?

Beatrice. The other two sound like stern old German women Grin.

RoundaboutSnail · 08/05/2018 15:44

I like Agnes and Beatrice.

In Grid sounds like a road sign. It's quite nice with the softer Scandinavian pronounciation though.

LarkDescending · 08/05/2018 17:18

I like Ingrid best from your list - also, with a similar feel, Astrid, Elka and Greta.

Shiftymake · 08/05/2018 17:25

Love Ingrid and would be on my top list if I ever get a girl, not very fussed with the others but Beatrice is preferred over Agnes, sadly that name just grates me the wrong way no matter who carries it.

MrsMozart · 08/05/2018 17:28

Beatrix.

felicitythemangyfox · 08/05/2018 17:43

Agnes - Agnes Dean
Beatrice - Princess Beatrice
Ingrid - Ingrid Bergman

Personally my favourite is Agnes. Very cool.

Really not keen on Beatrice.

Ingrid is nice.

felicitythemangyfox · 08/05/2018 17:45

And in terms of popularity Beatrice is something like 80 whereas Agnes is 361 (if that bothers you)

Herja · 08/05/2018 17:46

Agnes.

IceSwan · 08/05/2018 17:53

Ingrid is beautiful

LifeinColour · 08/05/2018 18:25

We have a Beatrix! Wasn't sure till she was born but so glad I chose that name.. she goes by Bea, bixiebear, trixiebee, beabop lots of nicknames to be had Grin

Anxiouschild · 08/05/2018 19:45

Ingrid is my favourite of those three. It was on my shortlist but vetoed Sad

daisypond · 08/05/2018 19:51

Not Ingrid - unless you've got Scandinavian connections. I think it sounds silly in the UK, like you're playing at fancy dress. I like both Beatrice and Agnes. I prefer Beatrice - because of its associations with Dante, and I like the sound of it, too - but Agnes is also good and less common. Both are good strong names.

felicitythemangyfox · 08/05/2018 20:22

Beatrix is great.

2tired2bewitty · 08/05/2018 20:25

I have a Beatrice, she is lovely but definitely not soft! Do check how it sounds in your local regional accent if applicable - we named her while living down south but are about to move to an area of the north where it comes out as Beetriss Hmm

ElizaDontlittle · 08/05/2018 20:27

I think Ingrid is ok, as other Scandinavian names become more accepted as 'ordinary' British girls' names (Freya, etc) who is to say it can't be.
I like Beatrix/ce better though - I know a Beatrix and it was one of those few moments where you hear a friend announce the baby's name and think oh, now that is perfect.
As an aside I love the Polish version of Agnes - Agnieska - sorry for lack of accents - now that would sound somewhat questionable to use with no Eastern European roots!!

RickOShay · 08/05/2018 22:06

Have you thought about Inge or Astrid?

bionicnemonic · 08/05/2018 22:50

Always loved the name Agnes. Strong rather than harsh

MyOtherProfile · 08/05/2018 22:51

Ingrid. And if you need any convincing just search up Billy Bragg's song Ingrid Bergman!

AsTheMilesTheyDisappear · 08/05/2018 22:52

Agnes. Like Astrid too.

Frontstep · 08/05/2018 22:57

How about Elsie? Or Gretchen? Similar feel (IMO anyway!)

Singlenotsingle · 08/05/2018 22:57

Would you like to be called Agnes? Aggie? Beatrice (Betty) isn't much better, and Ingrid isn't English. My mum was called Beatrice and she hated it. How about Charlotte after the Princess?

immortalmarble · 08/05/2018 23:00

Beatrice is my preference from the three names.

ScoobyGangMember · 08/05/2018 23:00

I like Agnes pronounced in the French way. Anyess.

CruCru · 08/05/2018 23:29

Ingrid. I love Agnes but don't like Aggie / Ags and I love Beatrice but I know several Beatrices / Beatrixes under 5.

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 08/05/2018 23:30

Those are all amazing names!! Love them all!
Beatrice is quite popular though isnt it? So you might want to factor that in.
