And how would you pronounce it?

OP posts:

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 13:54

I know a Ciara, pronounced Sierra. Everyone is like "no love, its not. Those letters don't make those sounds, and its a different name entirely".

ellsbells2 · 01/05/2018 13:54

I would assume you didn't know how to spell it properly and still pronounce it Ann-eye-eece.

Guess I'm just a dickhead though.

tinykirst · 01/05/2018 13:55

Just to stick up for the op a bit as she seems to be getting a lot of flack..

I have a 'made up' name and I love it!

Yes, people who don't know me pronounce it wrong and people don't spell it right .. but I can safely say that my name has never caused any problems! I love having a unique name!

Op, you call your baby whatever you want to call her and don't worry about if it's the 'right' or 'wrong' way of spelling/saying a name. The right way is whatever way you choose for your baby xx

MillicentF · 01/05/2018 13:57

Not sure how you would get Ann-Ace. . Annace? But I think anything will look like Anais spelled wrong.

pipilangstrumpf · 01/05/2018 14:21

I'd spell it Anaïse. That makes the pronunciation clear and unambiguous.

MillicentF · 01/05/2018 14:25

“I'd spell it Anaïse. That makes the pronunciation clear and unambiguous.”

No it doesn’t.

elQuintoConyo · 01/05/2018 14:29

I'd pronounce it like the end of mayonaise.

I have a friend with a made up name but it is easy to pronounce and spell.

Be kind to your child.

Ancientmummyofwooooos · 01/05/2018 14:30

A- nay- iss? Dd's friend is an a-nay- iss, not sure on the spelling of hers though. Very pretty name.

LarkDescending · 01/05/2018 14:41

I must say I had never heard of it before (in contrast to Anaïs), but there are a number of instances of "Anaise" births, marriages and deaths on www.freebmd.org.uk going back to 1845. Many of them, but not all, have French-sounding surnames.

Scabbersley · 01/05/2018 14:43

I'd pronounce it Anays

nickname Mayo.

LarkDescending · 01/05/2018 14:46

Yes, May-Anaise would not be a good combo.

joystir59 · 01/05/2018 14:56

Sounds like something biochemical. Anaïs is the correct name with a silent s

joystir59 · 01/05/2018 14:57

Anaise sounds a bit Chardonnay imo

LarkDescending · 01/05/2018 14:58

But Anaïs doesn't have a silent s Confused

o0o0 · 01/05/2018 15:03

Definitely Mae-Anaise so as not to appear too dickheadish

o0o0 · 01/05/2018 15:06

Or Deeckhedisssh

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 15:40

Yes, people who don't know me pronounce it wrong and people don't spell it right

If your parents changed it to a wacky spelling or to a way that doesn't make sense, you're the one pronouncing it/spelling it wrong, not them.

The right way is whatever way you choose for your baby

but thats just bollocks, isn't it? You can't choose how the english language works, you can't say "its spelled p, h, 7, hyphen, umlaut, r, z, x, and you say it Bob".
it doesn't work that way. there are right ways and wrong ways.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 15:42

Yep it's like naming a baby "Bath" and saying it is pronounced "Dave!"
My name is actually pronounced differently in different countries. But that's not the same as choosing to pronounce a word in a way that makes no sense.

tinykirst · 01/05/2018 15:50

@DougFargo no because it's my name not theirs. The beginning of my name is kirst and people say Christ so that's people just not reading properly

And she's not doing that though is she?? It's just a variation of the name .. so are people who are called Aimee wrong because they're not spelling it like Amy for example.

I'm sure if op named her baby anaise she wouldn't even get any hassle 😂 people will

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 15:52

It's just a variation of the name .. so are people who are called Aimee wrong because they're not spelling it like Amy for example

That is an alternative spelling, this one OP just decided looked better, and then also tried to change the pronounciation.

tinykirst · 01/05/2018 16:16

Well I personally think it's a lovely name and if op likes it then she should use it

Oh and

"Anaise's origin is Persian and Hebrew.
Anaise is a derivative of the French name Anais."

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 16:18

Again, babynamespedia is riddled with shit and totally made up names, its completely meaningless as a resource and is not proof of anything.

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 16:20

See:

The baby girl name Cachai has its origins in the French language. Cachai is a variant transcription of the name Cachet.See also the related category french

Also not a name.

iloveredwine · 01/05/2018 16:23

If you have children the name is one of the characters in gumball on cartoon network!

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 16:24

Anais is, yes.
