Strong girl names

As it's the centenary of women getting the vote I'd like a strong female name for my daughter political, musical or scientific name but not too unusual. My list included matilda Lydia Elza Jane Olivia Marie, aurora, lilly, lyra Anne, bess... Bodica? Too radical... I don't like the sound of matilda, could be tilly I suppose... I could have multiple middle names, but only want one, a family member as a middle name. Maybe I'll look up historical events around the due date, mid July and pick a name based on that.. Need to do some history homework...

I think Maria is a beautiful but strong sounding name and definitely not common

Embracethechaos · 27/04/2018 22:52

Haha, love hermione, not hermeown.

Reading about the pankhursts I'd rather go for emmes daughters names, adela (or Adele) or Sylvia. Suffragette leader Emmeline was too militant...

Emily? After Emily Pankhurst. She was the leader of the suffragettes. There is also Emily Davison who threw herself under the kings horse for the suffragette movement.

Octavia? She was the sister of the emperor Augustus and very well respected in Rome and a strong female figure.

Rosalind? After Rosalind Franklin, she contributed the discovery of the structure of DNA

Embracethechaos · 27/04/2018 23:03

I love thunder, tova is nice, my husband dislikes matilda... Should I go to Battle over the name, I love the book and musical...

Maybe I'll look into famous suffragees or pioneer of computing. I know that was developed by women during and after the war with coding and mapping.

OP posts:
ErrantBakedBean · 27/04/2018 23:10

You'll find Ada Lovelace if you look for computing pioneers :)

You could look at the the goddesses maybe... The story goes that Athena was born already wearing her war armour Grin

Embracethechaos · 27/04/2018 23:11

Ada was the first person to write an algorithm but Adele pops up again as an American computing pioneer. She's also an independent singer songwriter.

Thanks errent, my friends announced her unborn baby's name as ava allready so that's off the table. I like it a bit but it's too short.
