Trying to convince OH

Hi!

Would love some opinions on this...due Oct and although we aren’t finding out I already have a favourite girls name which is Posy.

Friends and OH hate it as our surname is Pudney....so she would be called Posy Pudney. Thoughts??

No idea if it is to be a boy! We can’t agree on anything at this stage Hmm

Don't. Just don't.

Imagine your child in primary school, secondary school, uni, work, 40 years old and holding a conference.

Just. Don't.

Mrsknackered · 25/04/2018 23:23

You can’t have a Posy Pudney Grin

I love Posy. But it’s Ballet Shoes, too flouncy and just pretty ridiculous.

When I was 11 I thought my 5th daughter would be called Posy Flo Bloom.

pallisers · 25/04/2018 23:24

I really wouldn't with your surname. But I admit I am not fond of Posy as anything other than an affectionate nickname so I am probably prejudiced.

Failingat40 · 25/04/2018 23:27

This has to be a joke, surely

It's hideous

If your dh doesn't like it and he's specifically said why, it's out of order to try and force it upon him.

nmiles27 · 25/04/2018 23:30

No, not a joke and I would never force a name on anyone.

I heard of a baby girl called Posy a long time ago and loved it that’s all, nothing has beaten it for me yet but I appreciate with the P in the surname it may not happen!

Sorry but really don't like that word/name - it's so fluffy. Then again my DD is called Tabitha ..... very marmite name ... ShockHmm

nmiles27 · 25/04/2018 23:35

@flumpybear Tabitha is lovely!

Posy is a traditional short form for Josephine.

Josephine Pudney works quite well I think! And is also lovely in its own right as well as shortened to Josie, Jo, Jojo.

RoundaboutSnail · 26/04/2018 08:24

Yes Josephine is a good idea.

MrsMozart · 26/04/2018 08:32

Oph, I like the Josephine combination. You could still call her Posy.

Sorry. Don't like Posy as a first 'full' name, or it with your surname.

TatianaLarina · 26/04/2018 08:48

Posy is great but not with Pudney.

You can call her Posy at home, whatever name you choose.

Scribblegirl · 26/04/2018 08:53

Sorry OP. I love the name Pippa/Philippa, have done for years, but we are also a ‘P’ surname family so I’ve reluctantly accepted its off the table.

Some alliterative names work really well - I know a very cool RR and a lovely SS. But PP sounds a bit ridiculous unfortunately - with ours it would make you think of the Peter Piper rhyme Grin

LemonysSnicket · 26/04/2018 09:32

Posy the poser.

Posy pudding.

Sounds like a cartoon character sorry.

HeyMicky · 26/04/2018 09:34

I have a Josephine who goes by Posey. Because she is three.

When she gets older she can choose loads of variations of Josephine as a nickname, if she prefers. I wouldn't expect her to be Posey forever.

Incidentally Josephine as a name gets loads of compliments

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 26/04/2018 09:39

It sounds like you've got a long way to go to persuade OH.
Tbh, Posy or not, the initials PP would deter me.
Posy is a traditional short form for Josephine.

rapunzelnot · 26/04/2018 09:43

Try to think of something similar
Holly
Mollie
Sophie
Good luck

RedDwarves · 26/04/2018 11:17

Was also going to mention that Posy is traditionally short for Josephine, so that might be something to consider.

You simply can't have Posy Pudney as a full name.

Oysterbabe · 26/04/2018 11:27

Posy is way too cutesy for an awkward teenager or an adult. Josephine with Posy as a family nickname is lovely though.

pilates · 26/04/2018 11:33

Post no
Josephine yes

eggcellent · 26/04/2018 11:46

Could you go with something similar, like Rosie? Posy Pudney is awful, I'm sorry

DramaAlpaca · 26/04/2018 11:48

Yes to Josephine.

Posy is so twee it makes my teeth itch & it doesn't work with the surname.

Pompom42 · 26/04/2018 12:03

The name by itself is ok but not with that surname.
Believe me I work in early years and have seen some laughable names in my time.
One lady called he daughter the same first name as the surname. Think "Taylor Taylor" etc but they aren't English

rebeccabecca · 26/04/2018 12:11

Please don't do it to your child. They will not thank you in years to come.

DiegoMadonna · 26/04/2018 12:17

Well there you go, OP. Simply show this thread to your OH and he'll be instantly persuaded Grin

villainousbroodmare · 26/04/2018 12:23

Woeful. Posy is so silly and twee imo and the surname takes it to comedy level.
