Would you make a comment about Frozen?

I don't really care what people think inside their own heads but also don't want to get so annoyed with comments that I end up punching someone..

Thanks for any thoughts..

i have a year old Elsa and have had the Frozen comment twice, so its hardly a nightmare. Iv'e never even seen the bloody film!

TalkFastThinkSlow · 18/04/2018 21:49

If I knew you well, I'd sing let it go every time I saw you.

If I didn't, I'd sing it inwardly.

OldHag1 · 18/04/2018 21:54

As I read the name Elsa ‘do you want to know a secret’ invaded my thoughts. In a few years it’ll be a different film and a different name. Elsa is a lovely name.

Joeybee · 19/04/2018 05:07

You know what I'd probably think of the Frozen character, but I wouldn't say anything. I think it's a lovely name which should be used more often. People probably will mention it to you, especially parents who've sat through the film over and over again.

NotTakenUsername · 19/04/2018 05:15

I wouldn’t say anything to you.

But I’d say to dh, “See! Thats what happens when you let your kids name the new baby!”

But it would be in a gentle poking fun/not nasty way.

HoppingPavlova · 19/04/2018 05:15

She will have people singing "Let it Go" to her for the rest of her life. Be prepared.

SD1978 · 19/04/2018 05:33

I’d think it, and internally ask you what you thought of frozen: it’s like all the Kylie’s in the 90,s thanks to Kylie Minogue. It may have nothing to do with sodding frozen, but the inference will bbe there for quite some time.

SD1978 · 19/04/2018 05:37

But I have an isla - older than the ‘on trend’ Islas by a few years, when it was still a pretty unusual name. I’m sure every time I shout out her name there’s a few parents eye rolling at how common a name I chose....... I do so enjoy though watching usually at least children freeze wondering what the hell they’ve done when I start screeching in a playpark 😁

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/04/2018 06:16

It's going to be one of those names that 'dates' a child I'm afraid. Like all the Claire's and Traceys and Lindas of the 70s ( my generation).
I'd avoid it. It's a pretty name but it will be common in her age group by the time she's twenty and I know I would have resented having an "ordinary" name.

OpalIridescence · 19/04/2018 06:26

I know an eleven year old Elsa.

It's a lovely name and she has not experrienced problems with people singing at her Confused

I don't think you should let Frozen put you off, you will regret not using the name you want.

MrsTylerJoseph · 19/04/2018 06:29

I would think born free and nearly named 17yo dd Elsa so way before Disney.

Groovee · 19/04/2018 06:30

No as it was a name I heard of a lot prior to frozen.

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/04/2018 06:31

I'd hope I wouldn't say anything but I'd definitely be thinking of Frozen.

OliviaStabler · 19/04/2018 06:32

I'd think Frozen but would never say anything to you.

NerrSnerr · 19/04/2018 06:34

I'd sing 'Let it go' in my head but not say anything.

BikeRunSki · 19/04/2018 07:11

Despite having a 6 year old DD, I have never seen Frozen. Elsa is the lioness to me.

BeakyPlinder · 19/04/2018 07:37

Elsa is a gorgeous name. But I would still think of frozen, I have an adult work colleague called Elsa and she does not appreciate being told to let it go anymore....

YWTS · 21/04/2018 12:21

We had a shortlist of four names before our daughter was born in March 2014. Elsa was on that list. Both in our mid twenties so oblivious to whatever Disney were putting out.

We went with Elsa in the end (partner was aware of the lion reference, for me I knew it’s also a line in Oasis - Supersonic). About a week after that, mother in law asked ‘did you know she’s a Disney queen’? We looked it up, saw the DVD was coming out about a week after her birth so bought it and thought nothing more of it.

Since the film came out on dvd it absolutely exploded, not helped by everyone doing cover versions of Let it Go all over YouTube. I think it probably peaked in winter 2014 but obviously there’s a second film coming out.

Reaction wise, you get three groups - one who make no mention of the link, a second who say ‘like in Frozen?’ and a third who are oblivious to the film but say ‘like Let it Go?’.

Frankly I’ve given up caring, I’m of an age where there were a few Kylies in school, two Michael Jacksons and other names that are definitely of an era (Wayne, Simon etc.) To answer the original question I don’t think it surged the name’s popularity, probably lots of folk with the same dilemma. In a way it’s nice that it’s not as common as a Jack or Isabel or any of the royal names.

She takes it in her stride and frankly embraces the link, the only thing you’ll occasionally get is older kids who ask what her real name is. Hoping nothing daft happens in the second film I suppose but I wouldn’t let it put you off.
