Which do you prefer and why?

Neither, but Nell rather than Ramona.

RedDwarves · 16/04/2018 05:59

Nell doesn’t sound like a full name to me, just like Elle.

So, Ramona. A Ramona would be cool by default.

Rhodes2015again · 16/04/2018 06:03

I doubt either name would become too popular but I by far prefer Nell.
(I do have a 9 month old Nell Grin)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/04/2018 06:42

Ramona

gwen25 · 16/04/2018 06:45

Definitely Nell! I've always loved it.

Ramona sounds harsh to me.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 16/04/2018 06:57

Ramona all the way - for that much loved Quimby girl, and for the Bob Dylan song!

RoundaboutSnail · 16/04/2018 07:34

Nell

lottiegarbanzo · 16/04/2018 07:39

Nell.

It would usually be sort for something wouldn't it?

Ramona sounds very much like 'remoaner' i.e. remain voter moaning at the referendum result. That reference may not last but 'moaner' does. I recall a book from childhood called 'Ramona the Pest' too. Even Romana is nicer, as the 'ah' sound is nicer than the 'oan' one.

Romilly is much nicer.

TossDaily · 16/04/2018 07:52

Both cool AF, OP, well done!

Nell is cool and quirky and friendly-sounding and has a whiff of history about it.

Ramona brings to mind a wild gypsy-girl, romance, strength and Throwing Muses.

Fab names!

Threeandabit · 16/04/2018 10:15

Ramona

Lifeaback · 16/04/2018 11:27

Ramona- I hate the name nell. Reminds me of chavvy Welsh types and don't think it's a nice name for a baby at all

DanceDisaster · 16/04/2018 11:54

Nell is lovely.

I find Ramona a bit dated and harsh sounding. Also not keen on the moan-a part. Sounds like moaner in a non-rhotic accent.

bridgetreilly · 16/04/2018 20:10

Nell.

RavenWings · 16/04/2018 20:11

Ramona. Nell is very scullery maid imo.

DairyisClosed · 16/04/2018 20:11

Ramona definitely. I tenner books from my childhood invoking a Ramona and some dragons or something.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2018 20:13

Ramona. Nell is ok but Nellie isn't.

daisypond · 16/04/2018 20:18

Nell, but more so if it was short for Helen/Eleanor/Helena, Ellen, etc, etc.
I don't like Ramona at all.

lynmilne65 · 16/04/2018 21:01

Ramona by the Bachelors ! Stone AgenGrinGrin

LoveInTokyo · 17/04/2018 10:55

I prefer Nell but really wouldn’t use it as a full name.

There are so many lovely names you can shorten to Nell and I think it would be good to give your daughter the option of being a Helena, or an Eleanor, or an Ellen, or a Penelope if she wants.

Nell on its own is just a bit too short and simple, and she will always get people asking her what it’s short for.

LoveInTokyo · 17/04/2018 10:56

“Ramona sounds very much like 'remoaner' i.e. remain voter moaning at the referendum result.”

Well I am a proud remoaner so maybe I should consider this name if I have a girl.

Grin
RoundaboutSnail · 17/04/2018 12:03

Brexitia also sounds good for a girl... a bit like Beatrix and Boadicea Grin

threesenoughthanks · 17/04/2018 12:10

Another vote for Ramona. I loved the Ramona Quimby books. I think I picture a Ramona having dark hair and Nell being fair haired.

MoonieMoo · 17/04/2018 14:11

Nell. Definitely nell.

Pemba · 17/04/2018 14:31

Ramona, unusual, cute and a bit quirky.

I do like Nell too, but you can't just give Nell as the name on the birth certificate, it's incomplete. Nice as a nickname though, probably for Helen/Helena or Eleanor. I actually prefer these to Ramona.

Justaboy · 17/04/2018 14:33

Nell for me , just says its gotta bee;).
