I love Grey for a boy but not keen on Greyson, are there any other names Grey could be a shortening for?

Graham

LoveInTokyo · 14/04/2018 09:24

Grey is a colour, not a child’s name.

If you’re going to do that to them, at least pick a decent colour like red or blue. Grey is awful.

Graham is acceptable but a bit middle aged.

averylongtimeago · 14/04/2018 09:41

Did you read fifty shades while ttc?

Don't do it OP.

ParadiseLaundry · 14/04/2018 09:46

I like Grayson with Gray for short. Not so keen on the spelling with the 'e' personally but that's just my preference. If you like it go for it, it isn't outrageously weird!

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 14/04/2018 09:48

My uncle is called Graham and gets Gray for short, I actually quite like it x

OOMG · 14/04/2018 09:49

I don’t like the e spelling for a name. I like Gray but only as a nn for Grayson.

chocatoo · 14/04/2018 09:53

I think it’s a bit depressing....I associate the word grey with drizzly depressing weather.

daisypond · 14/04/2018 09:53

Grey is problematic because of Fifty Shades. And also because it's a neutral colour that's popular now in house decor, so it's a bit like beige, and would you call your child that? But you could use it a short form for Gregory maybe.

tishhope · 14/04/2018 10:02

Maybe it's my age but it reminds me of Larry Grayson.

grouchymamabear · 14/04/2018 10:03

I absolutely love the name Grey and desperately wanted to use it for DS (at least as a middle name) but DP vetoed it. 😞 Can't think of any suggestions as to what it could be short for though, sorry!

FusRoDah · 14/04/2018 10:15

I would say go for Graham/Graeme (don't like Grayson at all). I'd spell it Gray though.

ReversingSnail · 14/04/2018 10:44

Gregory?

BringMeCoffeePlease · 14/04/2018 10:48

Grayson works with Gray as a shortening. Or Graham, but you may feel that’s outdated. Grey with an e isn’t nice.

CelticSelkie · 14/04/2018 10:50

I like it as a nn for Gregory but not Graham Graham is awful. I had a horrible horrible boss called graham and th name gives me the heebeez
Actually at first glance I thought the thread title was Greg. I prefer that to Grey.

CelticSelkie · 14/04/2018 10:51

ps, if you go with Grey as a name please use Gray with the a spelling as I don't see that as the bland colour of Grey but as a name. Calling somebody grey is a bit of an insult. ''He's a bit ............grey''.

missyB1 · 14/04/2018 10:54

Yep Larry Grayson Grin

LoveInTokyo · 14/04/2018 11:19

Gregory is definitely a good call because then the poor child can call himself Greg

CelticSelkie · 14/04/2018 11:24

ha ha! agree with pp

Gray is a bit trendy now. But in forty years time, the name Greg will still be used often enough to be a normal name to fall back on.

I actually like Gray but not having seen the fifty shades of gray films, I don't know HOW risky a choice is it.

BoudicasBoudoir · 14/04/2018 19:36

You could name him after this bloke: Greysteil.

octonaught · 14/04/2018 19:41

Liv Tyler stepson is called Grey Gardner.
I like the name; I think it sounds sophisticated, a bit like Greer for a girl (one of Booke Shields daughters)

wurlie · 14/04/2018 19:46

Why would you call a child Grey

It's not a name and out of all the non names it's a pretty bad one

Graham really is your only option.

But don't do Grey on its own. It might sound cool & distinguished in some ways but in others dull.

NordicNobody · 15/04/2018 23:12

If you go with a colour name be careful of what middle/ last name he has. I knew a boy once called Matt Brown. Everyone always teased him and said "it's Matt Brown, the most boring colour paint you can buy". I can imagine a similar scenario occuring with a name like Grey.

Winterfield · 15/04/2018 23:21

Dougray
