Love what do you mean, not a proper name? Like a made up name? Because it's actually a well established name...google is your friend.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 12/04/2018 14:16

it’s not a proper name for either a girl or a boy

It's most definitely a real name Love Confused

As I said upthread, I know one in his 50's - it's an old family name on his side.

I went to school with a Leighton, he pronounced it Layton

kiwimummy11 · 12/04/2018 14:23

I once heard a story about a boy from Bedfordshire area who was watching Leyton Hewitt play at Wimbledon, wanted to support him but in his excitement, when the crowd was quiet, shouted "Come on Leighton Buzzard!"

Veterinari · 12/04/2018 15:39

Classic Welsh boys name

I'm with you SheGot - there's more than one in my (Welsh) family tree.....born first half of 20th Century

fluffiphlox · 12/04/2018 19:06

The one I know is Lay-ton. He's a lovely little boy.

Dixiestampsagain · 12/04/2018 23:31

Yep, most of the ones I know are in their 40s and live in the Valleys fluffi

CeeCeeMacFay · 12/04/2018 23:35

I would think of a girl and pronounce it lay-ton

Atticusss · 12/04/2018 23:36

Lay-ton. I think it's interesting that older men with this name are usually middle class and young boys with it definitely not. It sounds awful in the local accent here. Long a, dropped t.

Tropicana123 · 12/04/2018 23:40

I know both male and female named Leighton

Dvg · 12/04/2018 23:43

Lay-ton and a boy

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 12/04/2018 23:44

Lay-tun.

As in Leighton Buzzard.

boomboom1234 · 12/04/2018 23:45

Layton. Boy.

Sevendown · 12/04/2018 23:50

dontticklethetoad · 12/04/2018 23:53

whiteroseredrose · 12/04/2018 23:53

I’m from South Wales and know a few men called Leighton. Never knew it was a place name.

WeirdyMcBeardy · 13/04/2018 21:48

It is a boys name. Never heard of a girl called Leighton (pronounced Lay-ton). I don't like it.

ReadyMeals · 15/04/2018 07:58

Lay-ton, a boy, and a perfectly normal name!

Halsall · 15/04/2018 08:09

Also the photographer Leigh Miller is pronounced Lee

Harebell if you mean the American woman photographer, her name was spelt 'Lee', not 'Leigh'.

And I have to say that when I visited Leighton House last year they definitely said 'Welcome to 'lay-ton' house' at the front desk. I've always heard it called that and I worked in that area of London for over 20 years Confused
