Layton. Male name. I know one in his 50's.

DramaAlpaca · 11/04/2018 00:18

I'd pronounce it Layton, as in various place names. Male name to me.

eggcellent · 11/04/2018 00:18

Lay-ton. Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl

BonnieF · 11/04/2018 00:23

Lay-ton, as in Leighton Baines, Everton left back.

ReversingSnail · 11/04/2018 08:16

Layton and I would assume a boy's name.

ClaudiaWankleman · 11/04/2018 08:18

Makes me think of east London!

I actually quite like it though. Yes it’s a place name, but I don’t think it’s tacky for it.

MikeUniformMike · 11/04/2018 08:20

Layton. Boy's name offering excellent scope for middle names. Orient and Buzzard spring to mind.

Lillylollylandy · 11/04/2018 08:20

Layton

AuntieStella · 11/04/2018 08:20

Lay-tun (as in Buzzard)

I's expect a person with this name to be male, and from a family that adopts naming convention of mother's maiden name as forename, or names after a significant place.

Fridasfridgefreezer · 11/04/2018 08:21

Layton.

Boy.

Not keen.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 11/04/2018 08:21

Layton as in buzzard. Although the main pronunciation locally is Lay (guttural stop) un.

harrietm87 · 11/04/2018 10:26

Layton. Male name. Agree with others - reminds me of Leyton in London (an "up and coming area" - ie not v nice atm!)

Glumglowworm · 11/04/2018 13:07

Lay-ton

And would assume male

bridgetreilly · 11/04/2018 13:08

I'd assume it was a town, not a person.

ToffeeUp · 11/04/2018 13:14

Lay-ton, boy's name like in Leighton Baines. Don't much like the name but Bainsy is top!

Pemba · 11/04/2018 14:13

I'd agree with Bridget, neither girl or boy, town. Or surname derived from the town.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 11/04/2018 14:24

Layton. I'd say boy.

Harebellmeadow · 11/04/2018 14:25

I myself say Layton, however I have always though I was wrong. Leeton is the official pronounciation, I recall. Context is Frederick Lord Leigton, Edmund Blair Leighton and in Hampstead I have visited Leighton house where it was very clearly pronounced as Leeton. May be a posh pronounciation. Try calling up Leighton House in London as asking them?

Also the photographer Leigh Miller is pronounced Lee.

Harebellmeadow I used to have a goldfish called Frederick Leighton, 1st Baron Leighton.

Had no idea I'd been pronouncing it wrong

LoveInTokyo · 11/04/2018 19:05

I also agree with Bridget.

I wouldn’t know whether it was a girl or a boy, because it’s not a proper name for either a girl or a boy.

Eolian · 11/04/2018 19:06

Layton. Boy. I've only met one. Not good associations for me - one of the naughtiest boys I've taught.

chezmk1988 · 11/04/2018 22:09

Lay-ton

simbobs · 11/04/2018 22:12

Lay-ton, definitely a boy'a name. Known a few, though with slightly different spellings.

Dixiestampsagain · 11/04/2018 23:29

Definitely pronounced Lay-ton. I went to school with lots of boys with this name.
