HELP with (unusual but not too weird) boys names!

DH and I are expecting a little boy and are hugely struggling with boys names. We’ve had a girls name on lockdown since before I was even pregnant but that’s now no use... I’m a teacher which makes me quite fussy as there are a lot of names I associate with other children and I’ve scoured two baby books to no avail...

The two names that we like (but don’t love) are Toby (Tobias) and Percy (Percival).

I also like Rupert, Vincent, Dylan, George and Abraham (although I’m concerned that last one is a bit too American sounding) but DH has vetoed them...

In short, we’re looking for a name that’s not too common but also not too weird (we really liked the name Wolfgang -because it’s bloody awesome- but decided against it as it’s too Germanic and we’re not brave enough to call our son that in actuality!).

Minds of Mumsnet I’m looking at you for inspiration!

We have a Henrik. We love the name and get a positive response to it but no bugger can spell it!

EdemaRuh · 09/04/2018 18:25

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think that perhaps DH is the problem as I like a lot of the names you’ve all suggested. Ezekiel is especially great (and Zeke is a cool nn) but it’s a no-go from the other half.
I know that George and Dylan aren’t especially unusual but I’ve actually only ever taught one Dylan (and he was lovely) and I’ve never taught a George so maybe they’re more unusual around my way?
Keep them coming all!

Henrik is indeed an excellent name. My husband is German so we chose a name that we both loved AND worked in both languages. As we both love all things nordic and have subsequently moved to Jorvik (York), it has particular resonance.

I’ve gone a bit biblical tonight! If you are struggling with names, I suggest both downloading the Baby Names app. You both swipe on names you like and it shortlists your matches.
