Dennis?

throwcushions · 12/05/2018 13:40

None of these.

This bit is a standalone clue in cryptic crossword style:

"exclaims the name of a layered place online."

You could also say that he "exclaims the name of a dark place on the web."

He was a warrior, a legendary champion, but he was still beaten.

He was also adoptive father to a King.

Bexter801 · 12/05/2018 14:04

Alexander?

VileyRose · 12/05/2018 14:11

Rex

Bexter801 · 12/05/2018 15:57

You doing the same as me @VileyRose 🙂 trying to make names out of the cryptic clue 😀

DuggeeHugs · 12/05/2018 17:55

Hector?

throwcushions · 12/05/2018 20:00

Yes DuggeeHugs! Hector is right.

Warrior of Troy, beaten by Achilles.

He exclaims (Heck) a dark or layered place online (Tor - the onion router / way to access the dark web).

Ector / Hector was the adoptive father of King Arthur.

Over to you!

DuggeeHugs · 12/05/2018 23:26

Awesome Smile - that was testing @throwcushions

Distracted by Eurovision I hope this makes sense:

Named for a peaceful place with a bloody history, this girl must remain jolly or risk the pit of despair

OP posts:
buttercup54321 · 12/05/2018 23:57

Amanda and Stephen

DuggeeHugs · 13/05/2018 07:52

Neither I'm afraid.

I should have been more clear though, it is one girls name

OP posts:
throwcushions · 13/05/2018 09:35

Harlow?

DuggeeHugs · 13/05/2018 18:03

Not Harlow

DuggeeHugs · 14/05/2018 09:27

Extra clue:

Not one to make the first move in social situations, perhaps because she is less than average height?

OP posts:
FlyingDandelionSeed · 14/05/2018 12:07

Shiloh?

DuggeeHugs · 14/05/2018 16:24

Yes Flying has it Smile

It means place of peace but was also the site of an American civil war battle. Jolly and pit are references to Angelina and Brad, parents of a Shiloh.

Over to you!

Yay! I'm late to these threads but I read them back guessing (and failing) all the old ones - glad I managed to get one...

On to my clue:

Sounds like a broiled leg joint? This Greek courtesan is now more popularly an Aussie detective.

Bexter801 · 14/05/2018 17:46

Bonnie?

FlyingDandelionSeed · 14/05/2018 18:03

Nope. But you're halfway there.

Bexter801 · 14/05/2018 18:32

Ohhh Tyler?

diddl · 14/05/2018 18:37

Phryne?

FlyingDandelionSeed · 14/05/2018 19:12

Diddl has it! Over to you...

diddl · 15/05/2018 09:34

Oh, hello!

Only just checked-it was the Aussie detective-loved the Miss Fisher mysteries!

Ok-he's generally a gay deliverer of news.

DuggeeHugs · 15/05/2018 11:08

Apollo?

OP posts:
DuggeeHugs · 15/05/2018 11:15

Or possibly Gabriel?

OP posts:
Bexter801 · 15/05/2018 13:15

Graham?
