Picking a girl's name with a P

M1980 · 19/03/2018 16:51

We are expecting a baby girl in June (our second daughter). It is super important to us that our families (Italian and Indian) be able to easily pronounce our kid's names, as both of us have had our names butchered our whole life.

We named our first born Ohana, which worked very well for across both cultures and for English speakers. We want our second child's name to start with a P. But after nearly 7 months of searching we still have not found a name we love.

Here is our current short list of contenders:
Paloma
Palila
Pia
Priana
Pelia
Parisa

Thoughts? Any amazing names we have missed?

Names like Penelope won't work for the OP. Linguistically it is most likely to be pronounced Pennie-loap unless you've seen it before.
Pia is good as it only has two real pronunciation options (Pee-a and Py-a) and neither is very irritating if the wrong pronunciation came across, and Paloma, Priya and Perdita is also relatively travel-friendly with similar simplicity in pronunciation option.
Petra? Petronella? Paula? Peta? All a bit more Italian than Indian in feel though, but again not many radically different pronunciation options.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestions.

Pearl/Perla/Penny (nickname) was my mother's name so that does not work. Otherwise I agree very pretty and cross-cultural.

Penelope is a personal favorite but as one of you pointed out neither side of the family will pronounce it correctly.

We want a P name because we are going down the alphabet chronologically with age. My name starts with an M, my DH's starts with an N, first born with an Old, second born with a P etc.

We currently live in the UK but are American and will likely move back at some point during our daughters' formative years.

How about Prudence, Pru for an everyday name.

SubtitlesOn · 20/03/2018 10:18

What is the middle name going to be?

Does it have a certain letter or do you know it already?

TatianaLarina · 20/03/2018 13:49
