Just wanted thoughts on the name Finnegan? First baby ds due later this year. Always loved this name and dp onboard.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's a surname here in Ireland. I've never seen it used as a first name. I don't like it, though I do like Finn very much.

But your baby, your choice.

dontcallmelen · 16/03/2018 19:14

Agree with Drama, an Irish surname think Finn or Finley is much better sounding, Finnegan just seems a bit odd.

AdalindSchade · 16/03/2018 19:15

Finnigan not finnegan surely? Also not a first name. Finlay is much better.

AdalindSchade · 16/03/2018 19:16

Or fintan.

reddressblueshoes · 16/03/2018 19:18

When I hear it I follow it up with 'wake' in my
mind, and that's despite the fact I know it as a surname.

So it's quite a maudlin, if literary, connection for a baby to carry around.

TatianaLarina · 16/03/2018 19:59

I think of Michael Finnegan begin again.

I love Finn, Fingal and Fintan, not liking Finnegan.

harrietm87 · 16/03/2018 19:59

Yep it's a surname. Are you Irish? If not, why would you want to give your child a surname from another culture as its first name?

raffle · 16/03/2018 20:01

Poor old Michael Finnigan Begin Again

notangelinajolie · 16/03/2018 20:03

Poor old Michael Finnegan.

LoremIpsumMum · 16/03/2018 20:05

I immediately thought of vinegar.

almostbutnotquite · 16/03/2018 20:10

Micheal Finnegan. If he grows up to have whiskers on his chinegan he won't love it down

almostbutnotquite · 16/03/2018 20:10

*live. Not love 🙄

Sophronia · 16/03/2018 20:53

It makes me think of vinegar too.

Icomehereseekingpeas · 16/03/2018 20:57

My mind immediately jumped to Judy.... Confused

RavenWings · 16/03/2018 21:48

There was an old man called Michael Finnegan, he grew whiskers on his chinnegan...

I really dislike it. It's a bog standard surname here in Ireland.

DramaAlpaca · 16/03/2018 23:30

...the wind came out and blew them innegan, poor old Michael Finnegan. Begin again...

chezmk1988 · 16/03/2018 23:50

I don't like it. Sounds more like a surname and reminds me of vinegar for some reason.

Jazzy11 · 16/03/2018 23:53

I think it's cool. Smile you don't have to be Irish to choose a name, sometimes you can just like a name there doesn't have to be a reason! Go for it x

CompleteAisling · 16/03/2018 23:56

It's a surname, you'd not find a boy here in Ireland with it as a first name. Very similar though is Finian, that is a proper name.

Thistlebelle · 16/03/2018 23:57

Michael Finnegan here too I’m afraid..

What about Fintan or Finbar?

squiggleirl · 16/03/2018 23:57

I love Finn, Fingal and Fintan, not liking Finnegan.

I think I'd prefer Finnegan over Fingal. Fingal just makes me think of the County Council....

CompleteAisling · 17/03/2018 00:03

Fingal is also not an Irish boys name.

SuperBeagle · 17/03/2018 02:05

We had two highland cows when I was younger called Finnegan and Sanchez, so now it reminds me of them.

Also, Seamus Finnegan from Harry Potter.

Greenyogagirl · 17/03/2018 02:13

Does it go with your last name? I had a friend called Mitchell David and everyone took the mickey out of his back to front name. And yeah Michael finnegan sorry

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/03/2018 06:53

Maybe Finnian?
