Guessing Game

Thought this would make a fun thread and maybe also provide names for people that are choosing that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Think of a name (your child's or any name really) and provide 3 clues.

Other posters have to guess the name and once someone gets it right, it's their turn!

I'll start:

2 syllables

Very definitely a boys name but there is a feminine version

2 very common abbreviations/nicknames

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
user1459464195 · 12/03/2018 21:12

Yep, Randy. Popular in the States, means horny in (some parts of) the UK

HecatesBroom · 12/03/2018 21:14

Off to bed now (different time zone to the UK)...
I've managed to think of a good clue but it'll have to wait until I get one right tomorrow...

applesandpears56 · 12/03/2018 21:18

Oh yes! Thanks

Scotstar · 12/03/2018 22:08

3 syllables, very certain of who he is, famous collector of information, also amazing writer

flybabyfly · 12/03/2018 23:23

Samuel?

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 07:36

Another clue please!

Mrsknackered · 13/03/2018 08:13

I'm joining in if that's okay! Bit late, no idea what the last one is.

Vladimir?

user1459464195 · 13/03/2018 08:59

Ooh I've had a brainwave.... is it William?

sleepycat13 · 13/03/2018 09:37

ooh I think you might be right with William

user1459464195 · 13/03/2018 09:39

I'm thinking Will I am = sure of himself, Bill collector, Shakespeare

MVLipwig · 13/03/2018 13:33

You got it with William! Probably a bit vague looking back! User you’re up

user1459464195 · 13/03/2018 14:43

Woo hoo! OK, trying to keep it cryptic...

In its complete form, a name shared by a cartoon labourer, a successful ex boy band pop artist and arguably one of the best footballers of all time.

Mrsknackered · 13/03/2018 14:47

Gary?

user1459464195 · 13/03/2018 14:50

Nope @Mrsknackered!

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 16:02

Robert (Bob, Robbie, Bobbie)

user1459464195 · 13/03/2018 16:39

You got it @DuggeeHugs!

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 16:54

Yay! Cryptic is sadly not my forte...

One name shared by a future royal, a pirate and the author of a cookery book.

HecatesBroom · 13/03/2018 17:43

Jack (well it sure ain't Meghan!)

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 17:46

Aye

HecatesBroom · 13/03/2018 17:47

On the grounds that I'm sure the above is right, and I need to get the tea on here is my effort.

Clue 1: You may as well give up now as you are never going to guess it.
Clue 2: It's obscure
Clue 3: the stage name of a British actor whose first name is actually David.

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 17:59

Jude

HecatesBroom · 13/03/2018 18:04

Easy, wasn't it...... who said they couldn't do cryptic?

DuggeeHugs · 13/03/2018 18:17

Only got it from the second one and assuming the third. Haven't figured out your first clue yet Hecate!

My next effort is:

A name shared by a fictional character with cold feet, a future royal and a successful singer-songwriter best known for their pop group years.

HecatesBroom · 13/03/2018 18:32

St Jude: patron saint of lost causes.
