Guessing Game

Thought this would make a fun thread and maybe also provide names for people that are choosing that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Think of a name (your child's or any name really) and provide 3 clues.

Other posters have to guess the name and once someone gets it right, it's their turn!

I'll start:

2 syllables

Very definitely a boys name but there is a feminine version

2 very common abbreviations/nicknames

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well done! I was going for Pretty Woman, Julia means young, and the character from The Two Gentleman of Verona.

I either make them too easy or too hard 😂

DuggeeHugs · 14/03/2018 23:37

Grin that's some mental gymnastics at this time of night! I didn't get the Pretty Woman reference at all

8DaysAWeek · 14/03/2018 23:39

I hoped pretty when she was older would help... pretty girl... pretty woman.

I mean, it all makes sense in hindsight... Grin

applesandpears56 · 14/03/2018 23:43

I’ve never heard of the two gentlemen of Verona!

applesandpears56 · 14/03/2018 23:43

My ignorance tho! Like another pp says I’m learning lots!

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 00:07

So: this name combines a famous nurse with a trivial water-based geographical feature.

sleepycat13 · 15/03/2018 00:22

Florence

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 01:00

Nope

EleanorXx · 15/03/2018 03:28

FintyTin · 15/03/2018 04:44

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 05:33

Not either of those

finallychangedmyusername · 15/03/2018 08:42

Marina?

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 09:04

Not Marina. I can do another clue if you'd like?

finallychangedmyusername · 15/03/2018 09:12

Yes please!

masktaster · 15/03/2018 09:13

Florian?

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 09:14

The name is originally Welsh

FintyTin · 15/03/2018 09:21

Meredith?

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 09:39

Yes Smile

FintyTin · 15/03/2018 10:01

Great clue, DuggeeHugs - kept me amused for ages (in between doing some actual work).

Apologies if this is a rubbish one, as I am overdue getting to my bed:

This (probably older) gentleman might have committed arson on Dutch soil.

sleepycat13 · 15/03/2018 10:22

Dick/Richard (vandyke)?

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 10:27

Bernard?

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 15/03/2018 12:45

FintyTin · 15/03/2018 13:48

Mr Cribbins was indeed guilty, DuggeeHugs: back to you! Grin

DuggeeHugs · 15/03/2018 14:11
Grin

I'm afraid this isn't very cryptic as I'm wrestling two small humans, but here goes:

A very popular king, he shares his name with a Christmas movie hero and the author of some much-loved mysteries.

finallychangedmyusername · 15/03/2018 15:04

Arthur?
