first name is a name my mum heard and liked, middle name was a lecturer at my parents uni who introduced them but doesnt match my ethnicity (we're eastern european and my name is persian/Hindi in origin) I love them both

Emily7708 · 18/02/2018 20:09

First name was from a Simon and Garfunkel song that was playing when my parents met in the late 60s. Middle names are just typical mid 70s classics!

Cosmoa · 18/02/2018 20:09

Mine is the name of a singer my parents like, and was also the name of my Great Grandmother.

EbonyJade · 18/02/2018 20:19

An American lady my mum met in a shop - it was an unusual name my mum hadn't heard before. Not Ebony btw!

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 18/02/2018 20:25

My first name is double barraled it is both my grans. Then my middle name is my grans maiden name.

NotWeavingButDarning · 18/02/2018 20:30

I think my parents made my name up (although I have met a couple of others along the way). It's the bane of my fucking existence to be honest. Nobody can ever remember it or understand it when I say it and even people who've known me all my life can't spell it. Several people who I've literally known since I was a baby call me the wrong name.

It's definitely affected my
social life in the past as I've been told people have avoided me cos they're embarrassed they can't remember my name.

Lifeofpies · 18/02/2018 20:31

My parents named me and my brother after their friends’ two children #original

Lifeofpies · 18/02/2018 20:32

That is tough, notweaving

RosieCotton · 18/02/2018 20:37

I'm named after my great grandad. He died the day before I was born, it's the only reason i never changed my name.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/02/2018 20:43

I was named after a child who wrote a diary of the siege of Leningrad in 1942. My dad was very affected by seeing her story in a museum in Russia.

HoratioNightboy · 18/02/2018 20:45

I'm named after my grandmother, who was named after her grandmother, who was named after her grandmother, who was named after her grandmother, etc. I've traced it back 12 generations so far, and there's probably more. I like the feeling of having such an old family name, but I somehow don't think my sons will want to use it for one of their daughters. Sad

Queenofthedrivensnow · 18/02/2018 20:45

Oh I forgot. Middle name after my grandmother and great grandmother. They were both formidable women. I'm pretty happy with my names.

BikeRunSki · 18/02/2018 20:51

Horatio DS’s name is similar. As well as being the 8th make in his parental line with his name (2 generations skipped it, DH and his dad), it’s also mil’s father’s name and the name I had always planned to call a son, since I was about 12.

BikeRunSki · 18/02/2018 20:52

Paternal line, not parental line.
Should’ve just said “his dad’s family”.

CauliflowerBalti · 18/02/2018 20:52

First name - a disco dancer. Middle name - a 70s superstar’s daughter.

Cut me and I bleed the 70s.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 18/02/2018 20:55

Jennifer yellow hat from the village with three corners!

NewDOOFUSfor18 · 18/02/2018 20:57

I was named after my mum's then ndn's alsation Blush

wornoutboots · 18/02/2018 21:00

My father asked two passing midwives their names, then said "that'll do"

MaMisled · 18/02/2018 21:18

Nothing meaningful just a trendy, tacky, common name! There were 5 of us with the same name in my registration group at school! I want to be an Esmerelda or Kitty or Cecilia!

HoratioNightboy · 18/02/2018 21:27

BikeRunSki

Some names are just like that, aren't they? My DH's family are even worse - FIL once told me that he was at a family funeral where he was one of six men there who all the same name (first AND last name!). It's a family name on my side too, so I have plenty of my own to get confused with!

KingIrving · 18/02/2018 21:30

A journalist

Backhometothenorth · 18/02/2018 21:34

Female scientist surname Franklin (my dad is a physicist and this name appealed to my Shakespeare-loving mum due to As you like it connection)

n0ne · 18/02/2018 21:57

A feminised version of my grandfather's name, and middle name after my grandmother (both mum's side)

dontcallmelen · 18/02/2018 22:24

My aunt picked my name, as my parents couldn’t agree & were calling me Lulu tbh I would have preferred that, to the name she gave me, my middle name is after my paternal grandma, most of my cousins on that side also have her name.

Bubble04 · 18/02/2018 22:38

I'm not sure if was intentional or not, but I have them name as my Dads ex girlfriend and my Mums best friend lol
