What’s everyone’s thoughts on Honey for a girl?

Can you imagine a politician or a lawyer or a rocket scientist or a teacher or a doctor being called Honey? No, me neither.

Twooter · 18/02/2018 10:38

I prefer Sweetheart.

NoSquirrels · 18/02/2018 10:41

I love both Honor and Honey - despite myself - so I’d go proper birth certificate name Honor and nn Honey.

LemonysSnicket · 18/02/2018 11:33

I like it ... sue me

MammieBear · 18/02/2018 11:49

If you must, use it as a middle name to give her options when she's older.

LoveInTokyo · 18/02/2018 12:05

I agree with using it as a middle name with a more conventional/grown-up first name, or call her something else beginning H and use Honey as a nickname. Could work for something like Hannah, Helena or Hermione at a pinch.

If that’s just her whole first name she might grow up cursing you for it, especially if she wants to do some kind of “serious” career later.

EleanorXx · 18/02/2018 12:27

I knew a Honey and she was a right bitch.

Glumglowworm · 18/02/2018 13:33

My first thought was Honey Boo Boo (and even then it’s not her real name)

Then Awww, Honey from How I Met your Mother

It’s an awful name. It’s overly twee for a baby or toddler, ridiculous for an adult woman.

ScreamingValenta · 18/02/2018 13:36

It makes me think of the song that starts: 'See the tree, how big it's grown ...' which I really loathe, so not a name I'd pick.

Amatree · 18/02/2018 13:42

Just why would you do that to a poor innocent baby, you would be condemning her to ridicule and judgement her whole life. There should be tighter rules on what they will allow people to name children.

dahliaaa · 18/02/2018 14:35

In the play 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf' the young wife is only ever referred to as 'Honey' and not her real name as a way to reinforce her irrelevance and the fact that she is seen as a bit of a non-entity.

RavenWings · 18/02/2018 16:16

Wonderful for a stripper, a term of endearment or a 5 year olds dream name. Terrible for a grown adult.

Honor nicknamed Honey is a good solution... although Honor in Ireland is the infamous spoilt brat daughter of Ross O Carroll Kelly (character satirising South Dublin life)

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/02/2018 16:25

Maybe Maplesyrup? Hmm

PinkFlamingo888 · 18/02/2018 17:29

I don’t hate it. But wouldn’t use it myself. It is sort of cute but personally I hate it when people call me hun so would hate that to be my actual name. I know of a Hunnie which I think is horrendous.

itcuddles · 19/02/2018 20:57

I know a woman in her 30's called Honey and it really suits her, she is a wonderful person. I say go for it if you like it.

windchimesabotage · 19/02/2018 21:04

I think its lovely and considering that 'unusual' names are trendy now and therefore not so unusual (for example Luna and Paisley are in the top 10 names for girls last year) I doubt there will be any raised eyebrows at all.
I think it hasnt been commonly used before but I dont see why it shouldnt be seeing as it is a similar earthy natural name, to Amber or Willow or flower type names.
Mila is a popular name at the moment and means Honey too.

toffee1000 · 19/02/2018 21:10

Hunnifer and Hunnie? Oh my word!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Hunnifer particularly, sounds like a stupid sneeze noise.

pipilangstrumpf · 20/02/2018 09:16

I'm not keen on Honey, sorry.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/02/2018 11:01

No, but Manuka is actually quite nice as a name.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/02/2018 11:06

toffee - how about Honeybel, Honeybella, Honeytrice?

EmergencyMedicalHologram · 20/02/2018 11:10

One of the presenters on QVC is always boasting about her granddaughter, Honey Bea, I mean, SERIOUSLY!?? Poor kid.

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2018 22:48

Honey Monster

MyKingdomForBrie · 21/02/2018 23:13

I don’t like it as a name, personally, but I think once you know someone you get used to their name and end up loving it so it would be fine in that sense.

It shouldn’t have any effect on future career etc but I guess I can see that it might?

Jedigirl29 · 25/02/2018 16:55

Not that keen on it😞
