Dont like it - sorry but im sure if you choose it your little one will make Avery become a lovely name.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 09/02/2018 09:07

Sounds like a girls name to me.
Also a bird house.
There are nicer names.

KarineAimee · 09/02/2018 09:22

The actor who played Captain Sisko in Star Trek Deep Space Nine is called Avery Brooks. He rocks = the name rocks Smile

NotAnotherEmma · 10/02/2018 10:41

It sounds like a girls name but also sounds stupid regardless of which gender it is given to.

Justoneme · 10/02/2018 10:44

Love it .... have actually put it in my boys name list now 💫

Toodlepip14 · 12/02/2018 23:21

I thought you said Levi sounded warm?
Xavier Blake Levi Reckstatt. Both sophisticated and hipster for middle class artistic people

fearfultrill · 12/02/2018 23:33

I like it but would think it was a girl's name.

MummySparkle · 12/02/2018 23:35

Sticky labels!

Atticusss · 12/02/2018 23:36

Yes, lovely name for a boy.

Leeds2 · 12/02/2018 23:40

I know one, and she is a girl. So, to me, it sounds very feminine.

1Lara1 · 15/02/2018 10:14

Yes it is a softer name , but I like it a lot .

I just don’t want that everybody thinks “Girl” if they hear the name. Do you think that could happen ?
AND
If we would call him Avi ( Nickname)
Does it sound foreign?

I really like it for a boy or a girl.

I don’t like Aubrey at all. It is one hell of an ugly name.

Hmmalittlefishy · 15/02/2018 10:21

I like it - it makes me think of the Nash ville character.
I don't like Aubrey especially for a boy it sounds very stuffy and old fashioned
I don't like the nickname avi though at all. Sorry op! But people shorten most names so you have to like the shortening too (which is why I wouldn't use avery)

Emabrmsca · 15/02/2018 10:40

I think it's Avery girly name

Sorry couldn't resist 😆

1Lara1 · 15/02/2018 11:28

I like it. Go with what you like.

AuntieStella · 16/02/2018 23:37

Avery was a notorious Deatheater, so I wouldn't really see it as a nice warm name.

RoseAndRose · 16/02/2018 23:39

Is Avi pronounced Avvi, or Ayvee (AV like UAV)?

llangennith · 16/02/2018 23:40

You’ve been watching Gray’s Anatomy OPGrin

Op, I'm a Brit living in Caribbean so have a massive mix of nationalities here.

Not once has anyone shown the angst or class snobbery about baby names as people do in the Uk.
If you named your child Avery here, everyone would say "what a lovely name!"

Both my sons have surnames for first names and are in class with Cooper, Hudson, Avery, Aubrey, Tyler, Hugo, Isabella, Huxley, fletcher, reef, kai etc. along with the very popular Ellie, Ella, lily-Mae etc.
In really life, if you introduced your baby as Avery, not one person would raise their eyebrows.

Only in the uk is there such snobbery about baby names. Avery is lovely and perfectly acceptable. Dare I say it, just as acceptable as James or Sarah!

mathanxiety · 17/02/2018 00:06

Avi is a (Hebrew) name unto itself, and also short for Avraham and Aviram.

The popular children's author, Edward Irving Wortis, uses Avi as his nom de plume.

I think Avery is short enough to not require a diminutive.
