And why (if a reason comes to mind)

Sorry OP I don't like either. If I had to pick I would go for Stanley.

SingingSands · 24/01/2018 17:24

Not Walter. Some names should not be returned to fashion!

I know a 2yr old Stanley, but don’t rate the name. He’ll grow into it in about 70 years though...

marmiteloversunite · 24/01/2018 17:30

I know quite a few Stanley's. Think it might become more popular. My friend with a Stanley also has a Wilfred.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/01/2018 17:37

How about Victor ?

pipilangstrumpf · 24/01/2018 17:41

I like them both, they make a refreshing change!

mnahmnah · 24/01/2018 17:42

I love Walter. My great grandad was Walter and he was the loveliest man. And Walt Disney Roo!

strugglingtodomybest · 24/01/2018 17:44

What a wally!

I'd go for Stanley myself.

idontlikealdi · 24/01/2018 17:48

Stanley is super popular where I am, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Walter is a step too far in the old name chic for me.

sonlypuppyfat · 24/01/2018 17:51

They are dreadful. There's hundreds of Stans and Walter the softy just no

DramaAlpaca · 24/01/2018 17:55

I think of Stanley as being quite retro cool, probably because I know a teenage one.

Walter is just awful. You can't give a child a name which has the diminutive wally, you just can't.

whoareyoukidding · 24/01/2018 17:57

My grandad was stanley and he wore a flat cap and owned a whippet. But...I know the name is in fashion again, so why not have it?

cupcake007 · 24/01/2018 18:03

We have a Walter in our family. I thought it was a joke at first but I do love it now and it suits him.

RuthW · 24/01/2018 18:08

Walter. Stanley is too common now.

isthismummy · 24/01/2018 19:07

Niether. They are both awful. I hate this trend for ugly old men's names for baby boys. A friend of a friend has just called for little boy Wilfred. Why would you do that to your innocent child?

DavidBowiesNumber1 · 24/01/2018 19:09

Walter, as in Walter White from Breaking Bad? Go for it! Grin

MotherofPearl · 24/01/2018 19:10

isthismummy, I was just coming on to say that if DD2 had been a boy we'd have used Walter or Wilfred. Grin

Coey2016 · 24/01/2018 19:31

I quite like both, I know a few Lorrie Stanleys so would probably pick Walter.

Coey2016 · 24/01/2018 19:32

*little Stanleys!

Taranta · 24/01/2018 19:34

I've got a toddler Wilfred, it's a blimmin' fantastic name. Lots of Stanleys round these parts, but no Walters...

Changedmynameo · 24/01/2018 19:36

Sorry to everyone that hates the idea but an old man name is EXACTLY what I'm going for. These are the final two (more likely to be Stanley).
It's just that I'm down to these two and I'm a bit "meh" about them. I don't LOVE them but I don't like anything else☹️

I know a lot of Stanley’s
Walter would be nicer I think

jeanne16 · 24/01/2018 19:37

There are lots of little Stanley’s now so don’t choose it if you think it will be an unusual choice.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 24/01/2018 19:37

Ernest? Baby Ernie?

Yvest · 24/01/2018 19:38

They’re both dreadful. Please don’t do it to your child

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 24/01/2018 19:40

Isthismummy - I think you are a bit out of fashion on baby names - Wilfred is really popular now (and lovely!)!
