The name Thea

What do you think of the name Thea Millie? Both names to dedicate mine and Dh grandmothers. Our surname is a nice sounding simple name (my maiden name was bad so appreciate my married name)

Also for a boy we have decided on Isaiah David (definitely not everyone taste)

Adore it - taught a girl called Thea and she was a total poppet! Smile

Harebellmeadow · 15/01/2018 20:02

Love it. But would pronounce it They-ah

daisypond · 15/01/2018 20:05

I love Thea, I'm not wild about Millie, but it's fine.

bellie710 · 15/01/2018 20:09

We nearly called our DD Thea but my South London DH kept saying Fea so we binned that one, I love it though.

StellaTins · 15/01/2018 20:29

I know one pronounced Tea ah

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/01/2018 20:33

I really like Thea
I really like Millie
But both names are now ten a penny in my part of SE England

Smoliver · 15/01/2018 21:35

I love Thea. Millie is a great/unique middle name. They sound lovely together.

Buck3t · 15/01/2018 22:41

@Greatduck
You've asked for opinions (you crazy lady!)
I'm confused by that comment

not sure why you are confused, but some of these "what do you think" posts can get a little out of hand with feelings hurt. I don't come here often but I do notice a few of these. Sorry if that wasn't clear

Regressionconfession · 15/01/2018 23:02

Thea is lovely and elegant, Millie is sweet but together they look a bit like the name of a French pastry to me. Not necessarily a bad thing!

LovelyBranches · 15/01/2018 23:11

I have a Thea so I obviously love it. I also have a son with an Old Testament biblical name so I have similar taste.

My Dd never gets called Fear like some pp have suggested but she does sometimes get called Sia by her big brother.

Gladiola44 · 15/01/2018 23:16

All the Theas I’ve known have prounounced it TAY-uh. How would you prounce it OP? Millie is sweet. Don’t like Isaiah or David, sorry.

SuperBeagle · 15/01/2018 23:19

Thea as TAY-uh would only make sense if it was Théa.

Xanadu44 · 15/01/2018 23:38

Love it!

Thank you for all your comments. We would pronounce it Thee-a. Interesting about a few have mentioned Millicent as the middle name over Millie. The two names of our grandparents are Dorothy and Mildred, but don’t like either of those names in that form so have looked for alternatives. I think in the area we live Thea would be pronounced thee-a but not overly bothered about having to correct a few people if needed.

I didn’t know whether Thea Millicent was too unusual hence me using Millie to kind of normalise the name if that makes any sense at all.

I have an 12 year old Thea (pronounced Thee-a - th as in thank not the) so I'm biased, but she loves her name. We've met a few others - but not many - one of whom is pronounced Tay-a. When she was little she was Fee-ar quite a bit, amongst friends who found the soft Th hard, but not a problem any more. I like that it's a bit different but without being wacky/hard to spell. Like others, I prefer Millicent to Millie as a flow, but I can see Mildred is a bit more of a challenge!!

Regressionconfession · 16/01/2018 12:44

I love Thea Millicent!!!

lgh05 · 18/01/2018 08:41

I am not sure I could pull off Millicent. For me Millie is quite cute so helps soften up Thea. Any thoughts?

OP posts:
Buck3t · 18/01/2018 11:55

I'm quite traditional so think Millicent is better than Millie.

emmeline7725 · 18/01/2018 12:01

I have a Thea (thee-a) so obviously Iove it. When she was very little she struggled to pronounce her own name (she called herself Tia) but I think that's just because the Th sound is tricky for little ones.
It means goddess which is lovely.

AHungryMum · 18/01/2018 12:03

Both gorgeous and timeless imo. Feminine and classy. Thumbs up from Hungry!

AHungryMum · 18/01/2018 12:05

PS if you want a longer version of Millie I would ordinarily assume it's an abbreviation of Camilla, but Thea Camilla might not work as well. Thea Millie is great though! I think Millie works as a stand alone, non-abbreviated name anyway tbh.

lgh05 · 18/01/2018 16:08

Millie is short for my Nanna who is Mildred (which I do like) so calling her a different full name wouldn’t then be a dedication to my Nanna if that makes sense. So I think my only option is Millie or Mildred. Thea is a dedication to my other grandmother and DH grandmother who are both called Dorothea.
