What do you think about these two names Adaline (Ad-a-line) or Adalin (Ad-a-lin).

Do you like them?
Which do you prefer?

Adeline - character from the Carla Lane soap “Bread”, not a character/personality I would want to saddle my child with, but Adalin sounds like it would cure a headache - take 2 with water. Sorry

NewIdeasToday · 11/01/2018 14:57

Well neither of them are names. Just jumbled up letters.

How about Adeleine, which has the benefit of being a real name.

SuburbanRhonda · 11/01/2018 14:57

They sounds like brand names of a drug, especially the second one. Sorry.

Emelene · 11/01/2018 15:04

I'd consider Madeleine or Adelaide ... Adeline i think will be misheard as Madeline, and I think Adalin doesn't look right and might be pronounced as Ayda-Lin?

MikeUniformMike · 11/01/2018 15:21

The girl in Bread was called AVELINE.
Adaline and Adalin sound like over the counter painkillers.

pipilangstrumpf · 11/01/2018 15:25

I like Adaline, it looks feminine.

Adalin looks like the masculine version.

Lilonetwo · 11/01/2018 15:36

Does Adeline look better in words then?

Newideastoday they most definitely are names
nameberry.com/babyname/Adaline number 175 in popularity.

Adeline is currently number 79 on babycentre.

I do prefer the look of Adeline thinking about it.

Although Adalin or Adelin or Adelyn seem a 'smoother' sounding name.

Like Madalin Vs Madalin I suppose?

Casmama · 11/01/2018 15:40

I think they both sound quite harsh and at first glance I thought Aladdin- sorry

GaraMedouar · 11/01/2018 15:42

I like Adeline best. Adalin looks like Aladdin to me. Nice shortened name Addy too.

Dontbuymesocks · 11/01/2018 15:44

My great-grandmother was Adeline, born in the late 1800s. I rather like it!

Lilonetwo · 11/01/2018 15:44

Grin ha ha that's funny about looking like Aladdin. I thought that when I was typing it for the first time.

AdaColeman · 11/01/2018 15:45

Adele is much nicer, and such a pretty name.

HappyLollipop · 11/01/2018 15:46

Adeline is lovely and looks better written down too. Adalin looks too close to Aladdin!

KingLooieCatz · 11/01/2018 15:47

Makes me think of

  1. Adrenalin
  2. Stalin
  3. Aladdin
Lilonetwo · 11/01/2018 15:49

How about Adeline in that case? I agree- looks better written down.

I don't like Adele. It reminds me of Babybel. Completely silly I know.

Lilonetwo · 11/01/2018 15:50

don'tbuymesocks it's very classic isn't it. But it's not incredibly popular.

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 11/01/2018 15:50

Thought Anadin!!

MrsTiggyWinkle3 · 11/01/2018 15:51

I prefer Adaline, but not keen.

What about Adelaide?

MikeUniformMike · 11/01/2018 15:52

I don't like Adele either. Ada, Adelaide and Adeline are all a bit frumpy.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 11/01/2018 15:52

Having never come across any of them, Adaline looks a bit like a girl’ s name, Adeline looks more like a girl’s name. Adalin looks like a proprietary remedy.

It owes its newfound popularity in the US to the film so I guess you should watch that if you haven’t already.

SingaSong12 · 11/01/2018 15:53

First thought was Aladdin. Adaline would auto correct to A saline and Adalin to Avalon on my phone. Although lots of names autocorrect these are already unusual names.

Dontbuymesocks · 11/01/2018 17:19

OP I agree, it is a traditional name and not very popular like so many ‘granny names’ are now. Personally, I think that’s a good thing but I’d definitely give it the traditional spelling as variants will just confuse people.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/01/2018 17:31

Love Adeline (Addie).

RosaBaby2 · 11/01/2018 18:02

I like it, with the 'Line' sound at the end rather than 'Lin' it reminds me of the film 'The Age of Adaline'
