What do you think about these two names Adaline (Ad-a-line) or Adalin (Ad-a-lin).

Do you like them?
Which do you prefer?

Both look made up, trying to be slightly different to Adeline/Aveline - neither of which are nice to start with.

SuperBeagle · 11/01/2018 21:02

Adeline is a much better spelling. I like it.

Adalin looks like a typo of Aladdin, I agree.

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 11/01/2018 21:53

Adelin but spelt Adelyn

Buntysoven · 12/01/2018 00:48

Adeline is a gorgeous name. Can't believe people haven't heard it before

WaitrosePigeon · 12/01/2018 01:15

Anadin Extra

Patal · 12/01/2018 07:47

I think either spell it Adeleine or Addalyn dependant on which pronounciation you like best

user187656748 · 12/01/2018 07:49

Adeline with the correct spelling. Its very pretty. The others are all made up.

shsh3r · 12/01/2018 07:51

Adalin looks too much like "Aladin"

angstinabaggyjumper · 12/01/2018 07:52

Either way people will call her Ada.

SummatFishyEre · 12/01/2018 07:54

Adeline is lovely

user187656748 · 12/01/2018 08:00

People won't call her Ada if her name is Adaline Confused

Ada is pronounced Ay-da with the emphasis on the first syllable

Adeline is pronounced Adda- line with the emphasis again on the first syllable. Nickname commonly Addie

Harebellmeadow · 12/01/2018 08:05

Adeline is a classic name from the Age of Enlightenment / Early Romantic Age. See "The Romance of the Forest" by Ann Radcliffe ( other books by the author have been referenced in detail by Jane Austen in Northanger Abbey ). A little rarer today than Lily or Mia, but so too is Jane for that matter.

Love the name. Delicate and elegant. Means "of noble mien" which translates to modern English as "lovely".

TheGhostsOfPresidentsYetToCome · 12/01/2018 08:13

I know of two Adaline’s born last year and yes they are both NN Ada. It’s pretty.

MistressDeeCee · 12/01/2018 08:21

My mum's an Adelaide. I like Adeline too

AdalindSchade · 12/01/2018 09:11

I like Adeline and I also love Adelind. I first heard it in Grimm (hence my username) but I thought it was lovely and classic. German I think?

AdalindSchade · 12/01/2018 09:12

I obviously don't know how to spell it though. Adalind? Who knows

rcit · 12/01/2018 09:15

All the Adaline variations are confusing. You could just name her Ada.

Lilonetwo · 12/01/2018 09:37

Ooohh I like Adaline too (also unsure on spelling)

I'm also surprised more of you haven't heard the name. Perhaps the spelling I put in the title threw a red herring?

I really like Adeline.

I don’t like Adalin as I’m not keen on the Lynn sound at the end.

Chipsahoy · 12/01/2018 21:49

My dc3 is a boy but if he was going to be a girl he would have been adeline. Fairly common name in the USA and we are American in the UK.

buttercup54321 · 12/01/2018 22:31

Adalin sounds like a painkiller or similar to a pantomime character Aladdin.
