What are your opinions? It is pronounced Ee mer. Thanks.

PasstheStarmix · 08/01/2018 20:12

That's awful sorry I hate it

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 08/01/2018 20:13

Thought Elmer!!

158ff · 08/01/2018 20:13

I'm not keen but it's unusual and wouldn't be popular. I'm not keen on the harsh sound (imo)

NannyR · 08/01/2018 20:14

I really like it, I know a little Eimer who loves her name.

PasstheStarmix · 08/01/2018 20:14

Elmer is an improvement...

SaucyJack · 08/01/2018 20:15

I'd assume it was a misspelling of the bloke from Lord of the Rings.

holycityzoo · 08/01/2018 20:15

I know loads. It's ok if you have an Irish connection bit odd if not.

ASDismynormality · 08/01/2018 20:15

I went to school with am Eimear - she was lovely but I always thought her name was quite ugly.

mynameisspam · 08/01/2018 20:15

I work with an Eimer, I think it's lovely. X

perpetuallybewildered · 08/01/2018 20:16

Lovely and not unusual in Ireland.

DuggeeHugs · 08/01/2018 20:16

I really like it. Both Eimears I've known (adults) have been lovely

CraicMammy · 08/01/2018 20:16

I know a few, lovely name Smile

endofacentury · 08/01/2018 20:16

Very ugly

greendale17 · 08/01/2018 20:20

Boys name? Either way it’s not nice

ChaircatMiaow · 08/01/2018 20:20

I’ve always liked that name. Do you have an Irish background?

TheIntrovertedMum · 08/01/2018 20:21

Pretty common here - in Belfast - don't love it but I'm not of that persuasion. I think if you're not from these parts she will have trouble with pronunciation her whole life ..

seething1234 · 08/01/2018 20:23

I prefer the spelling Emer. I like it. Loads of 20 - 40 year oldsin Ireland with that name.

BelfortGabbz · 08/01/2018 20:24

Yes we have an Irish background along with very Irish surname.

Girls name.

I love it. I have a gorgeous cat called Emer and I'm rather sorry I wasted the name on her.

eloisesparkle · 08/01/2018 20:35

Emer would be easier to pronounce for non Irish speakers.
It's nice.
TheIntrovertedMum
In the North if you use a certain name do people automatically assume you are of one persuasion rather than the other ?

villainousbroodmare · 08/01/2018 20:37

Of course they do!

TheIntrovertedMum · 08/01/2018 20:44

@eloisesparkle yes, Irish names are a no go in some areas 🙈

implantsandaDyson · 08/01/2018 20:55

It’s quite popular in my kids primary school (Belfast), I think it’s making a bit of a comeback Grin. I actually prefer the Emer spelling.

holycityzoo · 08/01/2018 22:01

The problem with Emer is that it would be mispronounced as Emma.

Snowyjoey · 08/01/2018 22:08

It's very Irish of one particular persuasion, loads of them here (NI) if you're in England I would guess that a lot of people might not know how to pronounce it?

Also, Emer and Emma sound totally different in my accent!
